Intellectual Property Legal Assistant – Patent & Trademark (Atlanta | Hybrid)
Connect Staffing is seeking a detail-oriented IP Legal Assistant to support a busy intellectual property team with a focus on U.S. patent and trademark filings. This role will work closely with attorneys, paralegals, and the docketing department to ensure accurate and timely submission of filings, while maintaining organized records and supporting overall IP operations. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in IP legal support or demonstrate a strong understanding of the process through relevant training or internships.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare, format, and file a variety of domestic patent and trademark documents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), including new applications, declarations, assignments, responses to Office Actions, Statements of Use, renewals, and maintenance filings
Maintain and organize electronic and physical IP files, ensuring proper tracking of supporting documentation and correspondence
Work in coordination with the docketing team to confirm that all filing deadlines, response dates, and maintenance periods are captured and tracked accurately
Monitor and review docket reports to proactively identify and resolve discrepancies or gaps in case tracking
Conduct basic research on USPTO records and update attorneys and paralegals on case status
Assist with proofreading and finalizing documents, as well as preparing exhibits, cover letters, and other correspondence
Handle administrative tasks such as time entry, expense reporting, and calendar management related to IP matters
Qualifications:
Prior experience supporting IP attorneys or paralegals in a law firm or corporate legal department strongly preferred
Working knowledge of USPTO procedures for domestic patents and trademarks
Familiarity with IP docketing software a must (Foundation IP preferred)
High level of organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and interface professionally with attorneys, clients, and administrative teams
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and PDF editing tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills
IP certificate or paralegal training is a plus; a four-year degree preferred
