    IT Help Desk Technician

    Location: Texas City, Texas

    Galveston County Health District is seeking a customer-focused, tech-savvy IT Help Desk Technician to join our Information Technology team! In this role, you will serve as a primary point of contact for user support, delivering fast and effective first- and second-level assistance for hardware, software, applications, and technical issues across the district.

    Work Schedule: Full-time, on-site position with occasional after-hours or weekend work as needed for system maintenance or emergency response.

    What You'll Do:

    • Serve as a primary contact for the GCHD IT Help Desk
    • Record and update all incidents in the IT ticketing system in a timely manner
    • Monitor and respond quickly and effectively to user support requests
    • Assign tickets based on priority and ensure FIFO queue processing
    • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and application issues
    • Provide support for VPN access, email, mobile devices, workstations, and printers
    • Assist with onboarding of new users and deployment of workstations/peripherals
    • Perform workstation hardware/software upgrades and updates
    • Maintain the IT Asset Management system with accurate device records
    • Create and update Help Desk documentation and knowledge base articles
    • Support voice, data, and wireless services in coordination with senior IT staff
    • Maintain a clean and efficient office and build room environment
    • Report issues requiring escalation to IT leadership
    • Respond to public health emergencies as needed, including evenings or weekends
    • Represent the division at public meetings when required
    • Carry out the mission, vision, and values of the organization
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    What We're Looking For:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Strong knowledge of basic computing, including Microsoft Office 365 & Windows OS
    • Customer service–oriented with excellent communication skills
    • Ability to learn new software and systems
    • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users
    • Ability to obtain a valid Texas driver's license; DMV check required
    • Ability for spur-of-the-moment transportation without relying on district vehicles
    • Must meet GCHD immunization, ICS training, background check, and drug/alcohol screening requirements
    • Excellent computer skills (MS Office)

    Preferred:

    • Associate's degree in Computer Science, IT, or Telecommunications (or equivalent certifications)
    • A+ and Security+ certifications
    • 1 year of IT Help Desk and/or Call Center experience
    • Experience with Active Directory user and security group administration
    • Working knowledge of Intune and Microsoft Defender
