    Job Description

    ITW Safety is seeking an Innovation Project Engineer Intern, responsible for leading the design and development of product concepts including, but not limited to, preparation of conceptual models via 2D CAD software, bench testing, prototyping, value analysis, and facilitate design for manufacturing efforts for the manufacturing facility for new product concepts. Works directly with the Innovation Director and as a key member of our “Safety” product line Innovation team. The Innovation Project Engineer Intern will be based at our manufacturing facility in Elmhurst, Illinois. This role has a high degree of focus on resolving customer pain points with innovative solutions leading to intellectual property developments on behalf of ITW Safety utilizing the ITW Customer Back Innovation framework. Leveraging an innovative mindset, actively participate in the generation and implementation of VA/VE ideas/projects.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES: may include some of the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Design and develop differentiated solutions leading to IP protected product offerings addressing customer pain points

    • Lead bench testing efforts internal to ITW, interpret results, write reports and present to internal and external audiences as needed

    • Function as conduit to external CAD resources as needed

    • Conduct competitor / customer benchmarking activity by conducting virtual (A2Mac1) or real benchmarking / teardown exercises, attending seminars, industry events and engineering forums

    • Maintain and contribute to overall ITW understanding on base material cost/function advantages and disadvantages globally

    • Actively participate in the intellectual property discussions on an as needed basis.

    • Work with Manufacturing team to develop processes and tooling necessary to manufacture new products.

    • Apply engineering expertise to write technical documents, such as design standards and operating procedures.

    • Acts as the internal and external trusted advisor to address customer product/application needs.

    • Applies ITW Toolbox to assure proper execution of Programs from the design to manufacturing.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in either Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology

    • 1 to 2 years of demonstrated work experience, product development and design experience

    • Demonstrated experience in CAD (AutoCAD, CATIA or Solidworks) required

    • Excellent organization and interpersonal skills required

    • Knowledge of electro-mechanical technology

    • Knowledge of CAE software, specifically thermal analysis, a plus

    • Automotive experience preferred

    • Strong oral and written communication skills

    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

    • Demonstrated collaborative skills with internal / external stakeholders
