    Job Description

    The Engineering Intern is a paid opportunity to work with the Innovation Center’s technical staff.  This internship position will expose the candidate to concepts and practices of performing technology investigations, and product development engineering. Under direction, the candidate will have the opportunity to explore technologies associated with ITW Automotive, Construction, Food Equipment, Polymer and Fluids, Specialty Products, Test & Measurement and Electronics, as well as Welding businesses. This internship is designed to allow candidates to explore their interests in a broad range of disciplines including, electrical, mechanical, software engineering as well as trending technologies such as Additive Manufacturing, IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things), and Robotics and Machine Vision.

    The position will involve the combination of primary/secondary research, analysis, interpretation, engineering, product testing and reporting on assigned topics.

    INTERNSHIP DETAIL

    As part of the onboarding process, the candidate will learn about ITW corporate and business structures and key technologies, which support the businesses and the role of the Innovation Center in supporting the growth of our businesses.  Time will be spent on discussing the Innovation Center product offerings Including the ITW Customer-Back Innovation Process, and Technology Investigation services.

    During orientation we will work with the intern to determine focus on one of these two areas:

    • Technology research
    • Product Engineering

    This internship is 40 hours per week for 12 weeks, with flexible start and end dates within the range of May-September 2022. The position will be located in the Innovation Center on the corporate campus in Glenview, IL.

    Qualifications

    • College junior/senior for the academic 2022-2023 year, or graduate student pursuing an advanced degree in Engineering, Science or Technology.

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
