    Job Description

    POSITION PURPOSE (GENERAL SUMMARY OF THIS POSITION):

    This position is a mid level mechanical engineer role with multi-disciplined background responsible for design and systems integration.  The role requires development and application of advanced mechanical engineering theories, methods and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems.

    As a level III Mechanical Engineer, the individual will be required to perform innovative mechanical engineering work under general supervision requiring a high degree of technical competence.  Some of the design challenges will include design of complex assemblies,  specification of sub level mechanical and electrical components, design of precision electro-mechanical systems and specification of high accuracy motion control devices. 

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB (RESPONSIBILITIES):

    • Maintains full responsibility for planning, organizing and conducting technical projects within the design, fabrication, modification and evaluation of mechanical and electromechanical apparatus, components and processes.
    • Conceives and plans projects involving exploration of product and/or process problems, definition and selection of new concepts and approaches to the design or development of new or improved products and processes.
    • Conducts independent technical investigations involving the application of a wide variety of mechanical engineering principles in the origination or modification of materials, components or process specifications and requirements. 
    • Recommends corrections, in technical analysis and design to ensure project completion
    • Light sub-assembly duties for prototype development

    SKILLS REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and 10-12 years’ experience.
    • Precision machine design experience is required
    • Ability to direct major phases of design projects and coordinate the efforts of technical support staff
    • Experience with Solidworks CAD package including EPDM file management
    • Familiarity with multi-axis motion control, machine vision design
    • Working knowledge of motion control devices, PC based control systems, power supplies, motor drives, amplifiers, software development, manufacturing practices and technical documentation is a plus
    • Experience with high-precision fluid dispensing applications is a plus
    • Must have good written and verbal communication skills

    Additional Information

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Normal working conditions involve seated computer work and occasional operation and work on ITW EAE equipment products.  Conditions include standing, 20%, bending and climbing over equipment, 10%, sitting at PC workstations, 60%, walking, 10%, light lifting of equipment or components up to 25 pounds

    Travel up to 10% including international travel.  Valid passport required.
