    Job Description

    The Research Engineer will report to the Technology Research Manager within the ITW Innovation Center. This position will involve engagement with ITW businesses involved with creation, simulation, and validation of mechanical designs that are important to ITW.  The position will be a combination mechanical design, independent design review, mechanical simulation, interpretation, and reporting to business  management.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Subject matter expert with extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering and Material Science with technical breadth to conduct CFD and FEA simulation investigations
    • Ability to evaluate technologies in their subject area
    • Ability to articulate to a broad range of constituents via written and verbal communication
    • Scope/define projects and manage 3rd party research resources with deep technical knowledge
    • Ability to demonstrate proof of principal
    • Support business mechanical design review and evaluations
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, post graduate degree preferable, however, relevant work experience in Mechanical engineering design, modeling, and simulation is considered.
    • Minimum 3 years of industry experience in mechanical design and simulation

    DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAITS:

    • Solid technical knowledge of Mechanical Design, CFD, FEA, and materials
    • Relevant work experience in design evaluation, simulation model creation, consulting, execution, and results interpretation
    • Knowledgeable of new and emerging design and simulation methods and tools
    • Proven track record of project success in a technology-based corporation preferred
