    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Engineering lab technician assists engineers by working to solve technical problems. The Engineering Lab Technician also works as part of a team of technicians to organize, setup, and execute all test related activities in the lab. This position also assists with research and development for several different engineering fields.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    These are the most significant job duties performed. The size, scope and complexity of assigned duties and responsibilities are dependent on the level and experience of the incumbent. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each assigned essential duty satisfactorily. Other responsibilities or special projects not specifically listed below may also be assigned.

    • Comprehend and perform testing as described by safety and sanitation standards of commercial refrigeration equipment for the purpose of development and maintenance of product compliance.
    • Knowledge of computer-based data acquisition software & hardware. Technician needs to be able to program and trouble shoot problems in software with minimal help. Most testing in the lab is performed by computer software and hardware interface systems.
    • Assist engineers in routine tasks such as retrieving needed materials on demand but can also involve the technician's deep engagement with the test, such as helping to control the experimental apparatus. Success requires strict adherence to the requests of the lead engineer.
    • Build prototypes, test fixtures, and related equipment in support of engineering and laboratory testing.
    • Trouble shoot, repair, and maintain laboratory and laboratory test equipment.
    • Ensures the safe operation of tests and test equipment.
    • To setup/execute/document all test related activities.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Fundamental experience in sheet metal, piping, plumbing, carpentry and electrical trades.
    • Capable of comprehending verbal instructions and written lab procedures. Identify and analyze problems.
    • Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams as well as the ability to interpret blue prints.
    • Assemble and evaluate all products, lifting up to 35 lbs., walking, holding, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
    • Computer skills with AutoCad, Solidworks a plus.
    • EPA Certification license a plus.
    • Willingness and ability to learn various aspects of the business to become a strong member of the team.

    Desired Education/Experience

    • Associate's degree or equivalent required
    • Minimum 2 year HVAC and/or Refrigeration experience required
    • 1-2 years Lab Technician experience preferred
    • Engineering and/or Quality Assurance experience preferred

    • Lift and carry components, tools, or other items weighing more than 35 pounds. Any item over 35 pounds, is to be done with assistance
    • Pull and push up to 100 pounds.
    • Carries tools and equipment to and from storage and work areas.
    • May perform combination of physical movements to reach areas difficult to access including bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, twisting and rotation motions using head/neck, arms, wrists, waist, knees and arms while performing duties.
    • Handle small hand tools and power tools. Handling may be done unilaterally (one-handed) or bilaterally (two-handed) depending on size and shape of object and task being performed.
    • Need corrected vision to be aware of surroundings and location of items needed and perform various other job duties.
    • Need corrected hearing to identify conditions in the environment (i.e. forklift horns, fire alarms).
    • Need mental alertness to identify, avoid, or resolve safety hazards.
    • Ability to work at elevated heights.
    • Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers.
    • Ability to wear designated personal protective equipment for the work assignment (i.e. safety glasses, cut-resistant gloves, hearing protection, harnesses, hard hats)
