We are seeking Igbo (also spelled Ibo) Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Igbo is a rare West African language, often required for asylum and immigration interviews.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Igbo ↔ English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and official proceedings.
Interpret with accuracy, neutrality, and professionalism in legal and immigration contexts.
Follow USCIS/DHS compliance standards and interpreter ethics.
Handle both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance audits.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Igbo (Ibo) and English.
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, community, healthcare, legal, or government preferred).
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
Strong telephone communication and problem-solving skills.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 federal clearance.
