  • Responsibilities

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Lead and conduct assignments in system design and owner’s engineering studies; technical design studies of transmission or distribution systems as well as solar and wind power plants; AC & DC engineering studies; generation interconnection applications and technical support to interconnection processes. The ideal candidate shall be able to carry out some or all of the duties listed below.

    TECHNICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ORDER OF RELEVANCE):

    1. Produce and develop models and reports for Electrical Studies for PV, Wind and Battery Energy Storage projects:

      • Electrical Models (Detailed and Equivalent): ETAP, PSS®E, ASPEN and PSCAD Models
      • Short Circuit Study
      • Protective coordination studies
      • Arc flash studies
      • Load Flow Study
      • Reactive Power Compensation Study
      • Harmonic Analysis
      • Flicker Study
      • Voltage and Frequency Ride – Through Study
      • TOV and TRV / RRRV studies
      • Lightning and Switching Overvoltage Study
      • Capacitor Switching Study
    2. Produce and review design drawings, including but not limited to one-line and three-line diagrams, electrical layouts, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, grounding and conduit details.

    3. Owner’s Engineer experience for utility-scale Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage Projects.

    4. Build dynamic models for new technology such as inverters, wind turbines, or storage systems which may require interaction with equipment vendors to define the models.

    SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

    1. Assign, monitor and coordinate the workload of the Power Systems Engineer(s) allocated to his/her assigned project(s).
    2. Identify and report any under/over-utilized Power Systems Engineer(s) ensuring his/her team is effectively utilized.
    3. Ensure that time allowances are made to ensure the Power Systems Engineer(s) have the proper training necessary to complete a project.
    4. Ensure every document generated by the Power Systems Engineer(s) assigned to a project is prepared, checked and approved in accordance with the company quality management standards and without errors.
    5. Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.
    6. Interact with Clients to seek input and address their needs and concerns with respect to the project(s) under study.
    7. Prepare responses to Request for Proposals (RFP), by providing a scope of work and time estimates for new projects.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's in Electrical Engineering a plus.
    • 4+ years of engineering experience.
    • Strong computer skills using industry software, i.e. PSCAD, ETAP, PSLF, ASPEN, PSS/E, etc.
    • Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) a plus.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT)
    • Proven team player skills with the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, business and technical writing.
    • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong time management skills
    • Ability to work in a high-paced team environment
    • Must have permanent work authorization to work in the US.
