Job Description

We are looking for motivated and passionate rising seniors with a  2020 graduation date to join the POLICY COMPUTE ENGINE (PCE) TEAM for an internship in the summer. Our team - the central brain of Illumio’s Adaptive Security Platform product, owns the core of the Policy Compute Engine and is growing rapidly.  We build platform frameworks and infrastructure for our service-oriented architecture. The key aspects include cluster management, high availability, caching and persistence layers, API support, background jobs, reporting infrastructure, authentication and authorization, and more.  We focus on the important aspects of scale and performance of the system to meet the demands of our customers. This includes system responsiveness and performance while maintaining active connections to tens of thousands of managed servers. We also build features that the rest of the product relies upon, such as workload lifecycle management, security policy authoring & delivery, and interactions with Illumio-managed servers (VENs). 

At Illumio, we design systems and write code that runs both in our own multi-tenant cloud service and in customer data centers around the world.  As an intern on the PCE team, we expect you to have a broad system understanding and work with new components as required. We are looking for someone who has taken a class related to database fundamentals (actual experience with PostgreSQL is a bonus) or distributed systems. Knowledge of RESTful APIs is desired. We seek self-driven engineers who want to be hands-on and deliver an infrastructure or product feature in 3 months that will be shipped to the customer.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with your mentor who will guide and coach you throughout the duration of the summer to complete your project.
