Immigration Paralegal - Family Immigration & Removal Defense
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Assist attorneys in preparing and filing family-based immigration petitions, such as I-130 petitions, adjustment of status applications, consular processing, and waivers (e.g., I-601, I-212).
Support removal defense cases by preparing applications for relief, cancellation of removal, bonds, as well as motions to reopen or reconsider.
Communicate with clients to gather information, provide case updates, and assist in drafting affidavits or declarations for family-based petitions and removal defense.
Conduct research on immigration laws, policies, and country conditions to support family reunification and defense strategies.
Organize and maintain case files, ensuring all deadlines are met for USCIS, EOIR, and ICE submissions.
Draft legal documents, correspondence, and supporting materials for family immigration and removal defense cases.
Coordinate with clients, government agencies (e.g., USCIS, ICE), and consulates to ensure compliance with immigration requirements.
Manage case tracking and calendaring to keep family immigration and removal defense cases on schedule.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an immigration paralegal, with a focus on family immigration law and/or removal defense (preferred).
Paralegal certificate or degree in paralegal studies (preferred but not required).
Strong knowledge of family-based immigration processes (e.g., I-130, I-485, I-601, I-212) and removal defense procedures (e.g., asylum, cancellation of removal, stays of removal).
Familiarity with USCIS, EOIR, and ICE processes and forms.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and case management software.
Excellent organizational skills and a keen eye for detail.
Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines in a high-stakes environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Fluency in Spanish is a plus, given our diverse client base in El Paso.
