    Imperative Recruiting (3rd party recruiting firm) is hiring on behalf of organization:

    Multi-racial coalition that seeks to support and advocate for those that have been impacted by trauma inflicted by police seeking a true unicorn for the role of Director of Alternatives of Policing. This role will be an integral part of the organization's Coordinating Committee and is responsible for creating and expanding 911 alternatives that are in alignment with the values and mission of the organization including mental health crisis, interpersonal violence and substance abuse. This position requires someone to explore opportunities across sectors to create, implement and expand alternatives that decrease community members' contact with police. Primarily in Sacramento and Oakland, California, this position looks to engage statewide and nationally over the next 5 years to ensure the organization and alternative programs become the go-to program for policy, pattern and practice shifts on alternatives to policing and incarceration response.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Collaborate with Policy Director for local/state level policy strategy

    • Collaborate with comms team to develop PR and public information materials

    • Collaborate with comms to develop a media/digital presence that provides access to resources and training

    • Collaborate with alternative program founders to:

      • work with team to develop deployment plan

      • supervise Core Volunteers

    • Collaborate with organizing team on the roll out of programming, community outreach and engagement plans

    • Communicate with funders and grant-writing coordinator

    • Communicate current activities with team, funders, public, and community partners

    • Communicate, coordinate, and deepen relationships with community members and stakeholders

    • Collect all relevant data and use data to inform Best Practices

    • Convene, host, organize, plan and execute community meetings and events, both virtual and in-person

    • Create, implement and expound on best practice for 911 alternatives

    • Create replicable and standardized certification and training for non-police mental health crisis responders

    • Develop leadership within the organization

    • Develop overall budget and separate project budgets

    • Develop relationships with local, state, national players

    • Develop training program for national training access to allies and partners (trainers, access to curriculum, evaluation of training)

    • Maintain sustainability of Oakland and Sacramento core teams and insure there is equitable representation of impacted communities

    • Monitor and research opportunities to collaborate with local and national governments in order to implement best practices

    • Regular meetings with staff and volunteers

    • Responsible for expansion and training of volunteers and staff

    • Supervise organization volunteer coordinators and assist with building volunteer pipeline

    • Co-lead with ED the committee to design and launch an abolitionist response to community crisis clinic

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Awareness and analysis in work area of state violence and mental health support

    • Experience in managing volunteers and teams

    • Experience navigating and working in side Behavioral Healthcare settings

    • Knowledge of alternatives to state sponsored responses to 911 or community based mutual aid

    • Experience working both as part of a team and independently

    • Experience in basic social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Ability to communicate effectively with team members

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Calendar and EMR systems

    • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks on a daily basis

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must have a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends occasionally

    • Must be able to attend meetings in Oakland and surrounding areas as needed

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    The project requires computer and telephone time and usage, sitting at a desk, and frequent meetings in the community.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The position will be based remotely, with the ability to work from home and with regular meetings with organizational staff, coordinating committee members, and members via phone or in person. Must be able to travel to Oakland, California regularly.

    SALARY AND BENEFITS:

    Starting salary for this manager position is $90,000 per year and includes 100% employer- covered health, vision, and dental benefits as well as a 401k & HSA with employer contribution.
