Union Mutual is currently recruiting for the right candidate to join our Company as an In Force Underwriter. The Company will consider remote or hybrid work arrangements, but regular travel to the Company’s office in Montpelier, Vermont will be required.

Job Summary:

The In Force Underwriter is **** accountable for retention of a profitable portfolio of business based on Union Mutual’s business strategies and objectives. Success in this position will require understanding of Union Mutual products, reinforcement of agency relationships, effective risk engineering, employment of creative underwriting strategies, pricing, and coordination of resources to provide excellent value-added service enhancing the customer experience.

Education & Experience:

• A Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a college or university in an appropriate discipline is desirable.
• Three to five years related underwriting experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills.
• Working knowledge of the insurance business including understanding risk identification and assessment, property / casualty insurance coverage, forms, financial statements, and business computer applications.
• Excellent skills in oral and written communication, time management, analysis, decision-making, problem solving, and marketing / negotiation. Demonstrated ability to establish a network of industry contacts.
• CPCU (Certified Property Casualty Underwriter), ARM, AIM, AIC, or comparable designations are encouraged.
• Licensed Insurance Agent preferable.
