    Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Chair – Renewable Staff Contract Position

    Qualifications and Position Summary The Independence Community College’s (ICC) Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC) Chair must be a licensed veterinarian who is responsible for overseeing the coordination and implementation of effective, efficient systems of protocol review and program review by the IACUC in compliance with the Policy of Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (PHS) and the Animal Welfare Act (AWA).

    General Responsibilities

    · Ensure that the use of animals or testing on animals is conducted in a humane, ethical manner, with the highest standard of care according to applied Federal, State, local regulations and institutional policies and guidelines.

    · Convene and chair meetings, ensure that there is a quorum present.

    Spring Meeting: January- May

    Fall Meeting: August- December

    · Ensure participation from IACUC members for annual protocol review, semi-annual program review, and facility inspections.

    · Participate in the assignment of designated reviewers for protocols

    · Oversee the preparation of meeting minutes, agendas and reports, and submit appropriate documents to the Institutional Officer (IO) in accordance with PHS policy and the AWA

    · Report to the IO any activities of serious or continuing non-compliance.

    · Ensure the establishment of a written system of communication with the investigators concerning the approval status of protocols and the steps necessary to secure approval.

    · Educate, advise and support IACUC members, Private Investigators (PI) and others regarding the IACUC process

    · Communicate regularly with the IO, Attending Veterinarian, and IACUC Administrator.

    · Serve as spokesperson for the ICC IACUC.

    Position Information

    This is a renewable staff contract position with compensation of $1200 annually plus travel expenses to campus twice annually.
