SSS Professional Tutor, part-time position
Independence Community College (ICC) seeks applications for the position of Professional Tutor in its federally funded Student Support Service (SSS) program. ICC is located in Southeast Kansas. Position Summary
The college is seeking a team-oriented professional for the position of Professional Tutor to provide direct academic support and coaching to program participants. This position may involve collaboration with other departments on campus. The position will be reporting to the Student Support Services Program Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accreditation agency required. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of two years of appropriate and relevant professional experience including familiarity with “at-risk” disadvantaged students, developmental studies, computer-assisted instruction, learning style modalities, and utilization of interactive tutoring.
Position Information
The Professional Tutor is a part-time, hourly position. The Professional tutor may meet individually with students or conduct group sessions. All sessions will be conducted on campus at Independence Community College. This position may require work after 5pm and occasional weekends. The ideal candidate will be available 8-10 hours per week.
The Student Support Services (SSS) Project Advisor reports to SSS Director and is responsible for providing direct academic support services to SSS participants.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide direct academic support to students in the areas of Math and Science.
Implement academic coaching strategies when engaging with program participants.
Document meetings with students following departmental guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.
General Responsibilities
Implementation of interventions for program participants as assigned by SSS Director and/or Associate Dean of Tutoring.
Develop individualized learning plans for program participants based on assessment results with SSS Program Staff.

Qualifications
Associate degree required, bachelor’s preferred. Candidate must possess a degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and be able to tutor College Algebra.
Familiarity with academic coaching and/or navigating college processes.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Familiarity with “at-risk” disadvantaged students, developmental studies, computer-assisted instruction, learning style modalities, and utilization of interactive tutoring preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and community.
Sensitivity to diverse learning styles and developmental needs.
High degree of organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple deadlines, tasks, projects, and assignments.
Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs. without limitations required.
An educational philosophy in alignment with a small, rural comprehensive community college.
