Terran Orbital is seeking a qualified Mission Operations Engineer candidate to work in a team environment while supporting a variety of revolutionary satellite systems for both Terran Orbital and industry partners. As a Mission Operations Engineer, you will be a member of a cross-disciplined specialty operations and engineering team located in Irvine, CA. You will be responsible for supporting spacecraft lifecycles including: initial CONOPs definition and development, formal engineering design reviews, spacecraft testing, qualification, launch and commissioning. In addition you will facilitate long-term spacecraft operations, decommissioning, maintenance of satellite command and control, telemetry monitoring, data trending, and mission sustainment. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
Monitor, assess and maintain the operational health and safety of on-orbit spacecraft
Perform complex analysis to monitor spacecraft throughout the systems lifecycle
Define, develop, and execute pass plans; may include spacecraft configuration changes
Identify, investigate, and resolve highly complex spacecraft system and subsystem deviations and anomalies.
Develop and test automation and data analytics tools
Support the development, launch, and on-orbit test of satellites
Long term data trending through data analysis
Design and improve on database schemas as well as interface with large data sets
Lead and participate in the development of satellite operations procedures, products and processes
Work directly with hardware development teams within the company in support of vehicle operations and design
Develop and distribute reports, not limited to: technical analysis, technical findings, operational managerial recommendations, monthly and annual satellite health and status reports as well as anomaly resolution reports
Play a key role in defining and developing satellite system and subsystem requirements for ground control system and networks.
Ability to meet and brief status and updates key mission and program stakeholders
Requirements:
B.S. in engineering field with 3+ years of direct experience
M.S. with 2+ years of direct experience or Ph.D. preferred
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Creative problem-solving skills
Experience working in a team environment
Experience with Object Oriented Programming, (Python or Java experience preferred)
Proficiency in at least one programing / scriping language (C++ or Python preferred)
Comfortable with command line environments (Linux preferred)
Strong fundamental understanding of orbital dynamics and classical mechanics
Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision
Good communication skills required, including the ability to express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing in time critical situations
Passion for the New Space industry
US Citizenship Required
The ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
Expertise in one or more specific spacecraft subsystems, and willingness to become proficient in all spacecraft subsystems
Proficient Experience with Spacecraft Data Analysis, Spacecraft Subsystems, and Software
Strong fundamental understanding in orbital mechanics
