    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The role of the Staff Accountant is primarily responsible for management of the cash counting procedures, auditing and depositing of payments, reconciling multiple general ledger accounts, and for maintaining accurate listings of construction in progress and fixed assets. The duties assigned to this position require extensive communication with several departments within the company.    

     

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:

                    

    • Prepare monthly reconciliations of all cash accounts and other assigned general ledger accounts.  Write journal entries to record certain monthly transactions.  Submit all entries and complete all assigned reconciliations within the month-end close period.  
    • Receive daily sales and deposit batches from the IMS Ticket Department, IMS Credentials, Brickyard Crossing Golf Course, and IMS Photo Retail.  Prepare the cash and checks for deposit and forward batch paperwork to Accounts Receivable for recording in Great Plains.   
    • Manage cash handling operations during events at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  This includes scheduling Accounting Department staff to count cash, maintain cash counting equipment, coordinate safe and effective logistics for moving cash around the property, audit received cash against ticket inventory/sales and address discrepancies, record gate and parking sales, and prepare received cash for deposit to the bank. Work closely with the IMS Ticket Department and IMS Guest Services to establish effective procedures for handling event cash between the departments.  
    • Responsible for coordinating the internal ticket audits of main events, and the main contact with external auditors for this process.
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations of all score accounts. Score cash, score accounts receivable, deferred score revenue.
    • Track and review invoices coded to construction in progress to ensure the purchase falls within the company’s capitalization policy. Gather electronic files of invoices charged to construction in progress.  Track the status of projects and place into service when complete.  
    • Using Bloomberg BNA Fixed Asset software, maintain an accurate listing of fixed assets for the company.  Create monthly journal entries for accumulated depreciation and depreciation expense using calculations from BNA. Work with the departments to track assets and perform an annual inventory.  Ensure all assets are appropriately listed for property tax purposes.
    • Aid in the general ledger accounting for the corporate enterprises.  
    • Assist in preparation of documents for annual financial statement audit.
    • Work on other projects as assigned by the Supervisor.

     

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    _Education _

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field from accredited college/university.  
    • CPA or MBA preferred

     

    _Skills/Experience _

    • A minimum of two years' accounting experience is required.
    • The person who is selected for this position should be a proactive, efficient, detailed, flexible, resilient, organized, team player. Specific skills include:
    1. Proficient with Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills
    2. Previous experience with Microsoft Great Plains Accounting Software and/or Bloomberg BNA Fixed Asset software a plus

    6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    _Travel/Work Hours _

    • Work requirements typically fall within normal business hours with little to no requirements for travel. Weekend or evening hours are not typical, but may be required for peak seasonal needs.
