JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs a variety of mechanical, electronic, electrical instrumentation equipment, and control systems used throughout the Airport.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Diagnoses problems and repairs highly complex electronic and electrical equipment including, but not limited to, high voltage distribution gears, generators, switchboards, lighting systems, and conveyor systems.
Adjusts and repairs controls for high and low voltage motors, conveyers, jet ways, and gate openers.
Oversees, instructs and coordinates the work of electricians and checks final products for completeness. Upon completion, conducts a quality control inspection and accepts or rejects the finished work.
Coordinates various phases of industrial electrical construction work for power distribution, lighting, motors, and controls.
Installs rigid and flexible conduit and wiring systems. Assures proper design is adhered to.
Assures all electrical construction and repair functions are performed according to the National Electrical Codes (NEC) and FAA regulations.
Calculates load, voltage, and conduit and wire sizes needed for each project according to NEC standards.
Estimates approximate hours, prices and materials needed for each project. Requisitions tools, materials, and supplies needed.
Maintains airfield lighting and navigation aids in compliance with FAA requirements on AOA and safety areas under guidance of Electricians/Electronics Supervisor
Checks to assure all preventive maintenance is completed according to manufacturers and NEC specifications by conducting regularly scheduled daily, weekly, and monthly inspections. Keeps logs of and completes work orders for these items.
Other Related Responsibilities:
Maintains records of all services performed according to Airport and FAA rules and regulations.
Performs any other related duties as required and assigned.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Electrical Test Equipment, Power Tools, Winches. Truck, Meters, Manual and Power Benders, Radio, Trade and Safety Manuals. Diagnostic equipment. Computers and programmable controls.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Where "preferred" is indicated, the qualification is not essential.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED.
Five years journeyman level industrial electrician experience working on airport or similarly related equipment of which three were spent repairing industrial power systems.
Licenses and Certifications:
Electrical Journeyman's License, preferred.
Graduation from a certified course of study for the field of electrician, preferred.
Valid Florida Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of electrical systems.
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of electrical maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of industrial electrical safety precautions.
Knowledge of electrical tools, methods, and materials.
Knowledge of National Electrical Codes (NEC).
Knowledge of FAA Regulations, preferred.
Knowledge of FAA requirements for maintaining airfield lighting, preferred.
Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and diagrams.
Ability to analyze electrical problems and make repairs as necessary.
Ability to research, read, and interpret FAA advisory circular and documents regarding standards and codes.
Ability to perform physical work.
Ability to understand and implement oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and fellow employees.
Ability to train subordinate personnel.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and fellow employees.
Physical Requirements :
The Industrial Electrician must be diligent in adhering to all work-related safety rules, procedures and regulations and take the precautions necessary to comply with the Airport Authority safety policy. Physical work is continuous.
Mental Requirements :
An Industrial Electrician must have the mental capacity to perform a variety of responsible and complex maintenance duties, The Industrial Electrician must develop and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, fellow employees, outside agencies and the general public.
Environmental Requirements :
The Industrial Electrician works indoors and outdoors.
