    Industrial Engineer

     

    Summary:

    The Industrial Engineer is responsible for enhancing labor productivity, workflow efficiency, and operational processes across all aspects of store operations while upholding strict confidentiality and business integrity. This role applies industrial engineering principles to design labor models, optimize operational workflows, and deliver measurable financial and service improvements across a dynamic grocery retail environment. The ideal candidate combines data-driven analysis, operational expertise, and a collaborative approach to drive positive ROI while safeguarding sensitive operational strategies.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Analyze labor deployment, work methods, and workflows across various grocery retail operations, including customer service, merchandising, inventory handling, receiving, and food service areas.
    • Utilize benchmarking industrial data to build labor modeling and standards with confidentiality and professionalism.
    • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve engineered labor standards based on time studies, motion analysis, and operational observations.
    • Collaborate with Store Operations, HR, Training, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to support labor planning, performance goals, and operational initiatives.
    • Lead projects aimed at improving receiving, stocking, replenishment, checkout operations, and in-store logistics processes.
    • Provide financial impact analysis to support labor initiatives and operational improvement projects.
    • Utilize data analysis tools and workforce systems to monitor labor KPIs and identify improvement trends.
    • Work closely with IT, Business Intelligence, and Payroll teams to strengthen labor tracking and reporting capabilities.
    • Stay updated on industry best practices in grocery retail operations, labor management, and process improvement.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

     

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in industrial engineering, operations improvement, or labor optimization, preferably in grocery retail or high-volume retail settings.
    • Bilingual in English and Mandarin Chinese is preferred.
    • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred or equivalent experience in process improvement initiatives.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools; experience with SQL, Access, or visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
    • Familiarity with labor management systems (LMS) and scheduling tools is a plus.
    • Strong ethical sense to maintain confidentiality of sensitive company information and data.
    • Strong understanding of time studies, labor standards development, and operational workflow analysis.
    • Practical understanding of grocery store operations, including front-end, perishables, dry goods, receiving, and food service departments.
    • High level of professionalism and discretion when working with sensitive operational and labor data.
    • Clear communication skills to influence operational teams and support change initiatives.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment.
