    Job Description

    A reporter with a curious nature and grit, the Editor is adept at business writing, and identifying and highlighting macro trends through a variety of media assets. The Editor is nimble and covers the supplements and functional food industry through a range of lenses to meet the needs of B2B audiences, including CPG brands, service providers and suppliers of nutritional ingredients. This position will produce news and feature stories, from scientific clinical studies and ingredient research to financial issues, business trends, litigation and regulatory affairs.

    The Editor has the responsibility to produce high-quality journalism with an interesting and authoritative feel that speaks to, and connects the dots for, high-level executives and decision makers in the U.S. health and nutrition industry. This person must be a diligent fact-checker and skilled writer who is comfortable interviewing an array of sources, ranging from marketing executives and ingredient scientists to the C-suite and government officials.

    Main job duties

    -- Report on breaking news in the dietary supplement and functional food industries

    -- Develop and write long-form articles that highlight and analyze macro trends affecting finished product brands, ingredient suppliers, contract manufacturers and others in the supply chain

    -- Write long-form reports and digital magazine articles as needed

    -- Attend trade shows and conferences to report on developments and meet and speak with industry stakeholders. The role also may entail moderating and presenting during online and in-person industry events.

    Objectives of this Role

    Content Development and Execution

    Report on breaking news in the dietary supplement and functional food industry, including, among other things, company announcements, ingredient launches, mergers and acquisitions, quarterly earnings announcements, regulatory developments, lawsuits and new legislation.

    Develop and write long-form articles that highlight and analyze macro trends affecting finished product brands, ingredient suppliers, contract manufacturers and others in the supply chain.

    Write long-form reports and digital magazine articles as needed. 

    Copyedit staff articles and other written contributions.

    Develop and moderate conference programming for in-person and online portfolio events that serve supplement brands in their product ideation, formulation and marketing strategy. This involves developing the content for individual conference programs/webinars/community events, working with industry subject matter expert speakers, conferring with the marketing department on descriptions, and working with event and production team on logistics.

    Collaboration

    Collaborate with Associate Director of Editorial and other team members to develop story ideas and produce multimedia for the website, including podcasts and videos.

    Work with other editors to improve copy and publish content that meets audience’s needs.

    Industry Connection

    Participate actively in the field, at industry events, online forums, networking and other engagement opportunities to develop relationships in the market.

    Attend trade shows and conferences to gather information, and to meet and speak with audience members and clients.

    Speak, present and moderate engaging and though-leadership ideas during online and in-person industry events.

    Daily & Monthly Responsibilities

    Write news and feature articles for online posting on a near-daily basis.

    Communicate with content team to update status and outline work challenges and solutions.

    Copyedit content written by colleagues and outside sources.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Creative/Analytical: Creative and analytical skills with the ability to conduct research and develop engaging, captivating stories and content that appeals to the target audience.

    Diligent/Persistent: General Assignment Reporter must be a diligent fact-checker who is comfortable interviewing a variety of sources, ranging from marketing executives and ingredient scientists to the C-suite and government officials.

    Communication and Writing: Excellent communication with demonstrated writing and editing skills and ability to craft keyword-rich headlines, teasers and article copy. Ability to create content in different mediums, including image galleries, podcasts and videos.

    MS Office/Software: Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    Preferred Education, Education and Mindset

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or any other related field. An equivalent of this educational requirement in working experience is also acceptable.

    Experience: Five years of working experience in a content writing position, preferably in B2B, with an ability to absorb technical material and translate information into terms easily understood.

    Mindset: Highly detail-oriented and self-motivated to publish on a consistent basis with little supervision. Collaborative in nature to create content that fits the business needs while also being able to independently find, plan and execute articles aligned with brand objectives. Must take responsibility yet remain flexible to the evolving nature of business and industry.
