    Job Description

    What we’re seeking:

    The Associate Editor is responsible for participating in the creation and editing of content for ISS magazine, website, community, store and events. This involves conceptualizing, researching and developing insightful content in multiple formats while following internal guidelines and receiving direction from the Senior Editor and Vice President.

    This person will be results-oriented with exceptional reporting, communication, interpersonal and time-management skills. They will have excellent business-writing abilities and the capacity to communicate strategic perspectives on industry issues. The Associate Editor covers self-storage through a variety of lenses to meet the needs of various audience segments. They also play a public role by participating in industry events and networking with industry members to represent the brand.

    Role accountability and duties:

    Content Development and Execution

    • Report on breaking news within the self-storage industry

    • Copyedit content written by colleagues and outside sources

    • Post news and other content to the website using the designated CMS

    • Conceptualize, research and produce unique and engaging industry content in multiple formats, including articles, blogs, galleries, podcasts, videos and webinars

    • Develop and write thought-provoking articles for the magazine and website that highlight trends affecting self-storage investors, developers, owners, managers and suppliers

    • Contribute to the brand’s data-collection and analysis initiatives

    • Attend industry events to report on activities and meet and speak with experts

    • Moderate and present as necessary during online and in-person ISS events including webinars, expert interviews, roadshows and conferences

    • Participate in planning discussions regarding ISS event education speakers and programs

    Collaboration

    • Play a role in content development and the overall vision of the brand
    • Collaborate with fellow editors and other team members to develop story ideas and produce content for the magazine and website including articles, blogs, case studies, galleries, podcasts, videos and webinars
    • Work with other editors to improve and create copy, and publish content that meets audience needs and brand strategic objectives
    • Monitor the performance of online work product and collaborate with the marketing team to evaluate data and insights and create content that best serves the target audience

    Industry Connection

    • Participate actively in the self-storage field through industry events, online forums, networking and other engagement opportunities to develop relationships within the market
    • Attend tradeshows and conferences to gather information, and to meet and speak with audience members and clients
    • Moderate and present as necessary during online and in-person industry events

    Professional Experience & Skills

    • 3+ years of working experience in a content-writing position for a publication or website, preferably in B2B
    • Experience with digital storytelling tools, CMS, SEO and analytics
    • Knowledge of the self-storage industry preferred but not necessary
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Strong AP-style writing, reporting and copyediting
    • Ability to construct grammatically correct sentences, punctuate them properly, and assemble them into clear paragraphs
    • Proper use of attributions and the ability to manage a wide range of contacts/information
    • Ability to adhere to stringent deadlines
    • Creative and analytical skills with the ability to conduct research and develop engaging content that appeals to the target audience
    • Ability to create content in different mediums, including galleries, podcasts and videos
    • Talent for crafting keyword-rich headlines, teasers and article copy
    • Strong interviewing and fact-checking abilities
    • Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications or another related field

    • Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated, with the ability to achieve high productivity with little supervision
    • A strong multi-tasker with the ability and pivot focus as new needs arise without losing momentum
    • Willing to independently find, plan and execute articles aligned with brand objectives
    • Ready to work interactively and professionally with all team members
    • Able to evaluate the structure and flow of a piece of writing and reorganize and/or rewrite it to improve structure, flow and clarity
    • Willing and able to travel up to 15%

    Additional Information

    ** The salary range for this role is 55k-65k per year depending on salary**
