    ABOUT GAME DEVELOPER

    Game Developer is the premier destination dedicated to the craft of making games. Formerly known as Gamasutra, Game Developer has been in publication for nearly 25 years and serves as the source for breaking video game industry news, features, developer-authored blog posts, and unique insights into game development shared  by game developers. Our mission is to inform, empower, and inspire the game development community.

     

    We're seeking an associate level (3-5 years experience) Community Editorial  Coordinator for Game Developer to help grow and nurture our audience via direct interfacing with the game development community. This position combines elements of writing, editing, curation of editorial content, and some aspects of developer-facing community management.

    The ideal applicant has a background in writing and editing, has a wide breadth of contacts within the game industry, and has a deep understanding of the game development audience as well as how Game Developer writes and communicates to that audience. Ideal candidates will also know the kinds of content game developers are looking for and will be able to bring new community-centric ideas to the table.

    This is a brand new position for our website with ample opportunity to create and own new ideas.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Create and maintain new categories of editorial content to engage our game development audience

    • Work and collaborate closely with the Game Developer editorial team to help develop stories informed by needs of our audience

    • Solicit developer-authored articles for our Developer Insights section from a diverse pool of contributors

    • Review, approve, curate, solicit, and nurture developer community blogs

    • Facilitate and organize existing and upcoming developer-centric new media initiatives (e.g. live virtual events, podcasts, etc.)

    • Develop and manage Game Developer Advisory Board who will help guide site content

    • Follow game developer industry and community trends and use insights to inform editorial content

    • Own and develop new community initiatives that help create a place where game developers can share knowledge about the craft

    • Work on cross-functional teams (e.g. marketing, events, production) to achieve goals

    • Create engaging social media content focused on the interests of our audience

    • Write, edit, and report on game industry as needed

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 3-5 years of demonstrable writing, editing, reporting, or communications experience relating to the tech or video game industry

    • Wide breadth of contacts within the game industry

    • Track record and comfortability in working with people in game development

    • A high-level understanding of game development processes

    • Deep interest in how games are made and the people who make them

    • History of strong collaboration working in team settings where members strive to help each other do their best work.

    BENEFICIAL TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE

    • Productivity software familiarity (e.g. MS Office, Google Docs, Adobe Creative Suite)

    • Experience working with a CMS

    • Some audio and video editing experience

    • Game development experience at any level (not required)
