    Job Description

    Information International Associates (IIA) is in search of a Media and Outreach Specialist that will support the Department of Energy Office of Science (SC) Communications and Public Affairs team. The incumbent will develop and implement communications strategies and associated marketing materials, monitor and evaluate news content from the SC-stewarded labs and universities, develop targeted media outreach plans, and provide support to federal government clients that will ensure effective delivery of products through established channels.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Develop and write information materials designed to reach audiences through the appropriate communication channels such as fact sheets, brochures, background materials, etc. Maintain and update the organization's press and stakeholder lists.
    • Participate in the development of strategic communications plans and associated strategies that identify target audiences, appropriate messages, channels, activities, and resources
    • Collaborate with client to gather requirements and develop and execute communications strategies
    • Develop content for promotional materials, including podcasts, email communiqués, newsletters, brochures, fact sheets, and presentations; work with graphic designers to design products
    • Utilize knowledge of latest communications technologies and tools to plan, execute, and analyze communications strategies
    • Build relationships with client communications staff and gatekeepers, and leverage those relationships to ensure effective delivery of communications products

    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Extensive knowledge of effective communications strategies and tactics
    • Strong planning and organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail and a focus on delivery
    • Proven experience using Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
    • Proven experience developing and editing infographics, PowerPoint and video products
    • Self-directed, results-oriented, and flexible; works well under pressure and adheres to tight deadlines
    • Ability to build strong working relationships across all levels of an organization
    • Proven experience supporting communications operations
    • Proven experience coordinating communications products for large, multi-level organizations
    • Ability to develop and monitor project timelines.
    • Ability to write in a creative, descriptive, technical or factual manner
    • Education:
    • Any combination of education, training, and/or experience equivalent to completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related field
    • A minimum of three years’ experience in public relations or institutional communications

    Additional Information

    • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
