    Inland Counties Legal Services is seeking Development Officer to join our Community Engagement Team in Riverside. Inland Counties Legal Services, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing legal services to low-income persons residing in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. ICLS targets services to seniors and those in the greatest social or economic need. Legal services are provided by attorneys, or paralegals under the direct supervision of an attorney. Levels of service include advice and counsel, limited action (includes negotiations and preparation of legal documents), as well as direct representation before administrative law and civil courts. ICLS provides legal assistance in a variety of areas in law, the nine practice groups are: Outreach, Consumer, Housing, Family Law, Immigration, Systemic and Impact, Health Law and Public Benefits, Tax and Bankruptcy, and Education.     OVERVIEW OF POSITION

    ICLS is seeking a Development Officer/Associate to create and implement fundraising strategies to diversify the organization’s funding sources. The Development Officer will be part of the Community Engagement team, which oversees ICLS communications, development, and its volunteer program. The position works directly with the Deputy Director of Community Engagement to develop a comprehensive development plan and manage its execution. We are seeking a team member who is intelligent, goal oriented, highly organized, effective under pressure, and possesses excellent prioritization and research skills. Familiarity with the legal sector—nonprofits in particular—is highly desirable.

     

    Reporting to the Deputy Director of Community Engagement, the Development Officer will assist in the development, implementation, and management of a fundraising program that secures donations from a variety of funders. With a focus on individual donor cultivation, the Development Officer will be responsible for identifying potential donors and foundations; managing ICLS’s database of top prospects and funders; working to cultivate and solicit donations; and engaging the Board of Directors to expand ICLS’s fundraising capacity.

    The Development Officer/Associate will assist senior management in building relationships and developing creative fundraising strategies that support ICLS’s work. The Development Officer/Associate will work closely with the Pro Bono Coordinator—a member of the Community Engagement team—to strategically fundraise from our volunteer pool, as well as assist with the marketing of ICLS’s volunteer program and various events throughout the year. The Development Officer will also work closely with the Development & Communications Coordinator, who manages ICLS’s social media, creates marketing materials, and provides fundraising support.

     

    Our ideal candidate will have a passion for helping the low-income community and/or access to justice and be able to speak eloquently about the importance of civil legal aid beyond simply providing legal assistance. To be successful in this position you must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, have a high-level of written communication skills with the ability to proofread, have the interest and skill to create and execute a development plan from the ground up.

     

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    · Develop strategy for annual development plan and report on its execution.

    · Research potential funders and analyze them to identify likely funding sources for programs and core support.

    · Identify donor prospects, convert volunteers to donors, and upgrade donors.

    · Work with Executive Director and Deputy Director of Community Engagement to maintain working relationships with donors, volunteers, and others to nurture their connection to ICLS.

    · Train Executive Board and staff on development-related activities.

    · Help develop and submit private foundation grant applications, proposals and reports exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling. Follow exactly each foundation's guidelines and deadlines.

    · Assist with special events, volunteer recognition events and awards

    · Maintain marketing materials such as brochures, flyers and other informational and promotional literature.

    · Work with team to execute online marketing efforts including social media, website, and e-fundraising initiatives

    · Oversee logistics, timelines and other operational elements for fundraising campaigns

     

    DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    · Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Minimum 3 years’ experience in nonprofit development required.

    · Must be experienced in using databases. Experience with CRM a plus.

    · Ability to juggle multiple projects; self-starter; operates independently and works well in a team environment; great communicator.

    · Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships with individual and institutional donors

    · Proven track record of success at meeting and exceeding revenue goals

    · Proven successful interactions with Boards and a diverse array of community stakeholders

    · Professional demeanor and ability to interact with clients, participants, executives and staff

    · Preferably you have a strong familiarity with the nonprofit world, legal aid or low-income community, its issues, needs, challenges and opportunities

    · Excellent writing, research and critical-thinking skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills are highly desired.
