    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    IELLA Legal Aid seeks a Clinic Managing Staff Attorney to coordinate and supervise the organization’s legal aid clinics. This position serves as a liaison between clients, pro bono attorneys, the organization, and our partner organizations. The holder of this position handles all aspects of the clinic. This position is also responsible for recruiting, training, retaining, and scheduling pro bono attorneys and interns to volunteer at the legal aid clinics. This is a great entry-level position for new attorneys to gain hands-on experience.

    THE STAFF ATTORNEY REPORTS DIRECTLY TO THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    · Bi-Lingual English and Spanish a plus but not required

    · Must have a valid CA Driver’s License/Insurance and the ability to drive a personal vehicle to clinic sites and outreach events.

    · Education: Must have a Juris Doctorate

    · Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California

    · Ability to adapt to obstacles with limited supervision.

    · Must possess excellent organization and communication skills when dealing with clients in high-stress situations.

    · Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Publisher, Access.

    · Experience providing legal services to underserved communities is highly desired.

    · The ability to maintain cultural awareness and sensitivity to different attitudes and beliefs.

     

    · Physical Requirements: High use of writing by hand. Routinely required to stand for presentations, walk, and sit, and/or move up to 25lbs

    · Ideal Candidates will have a strong commitment to serving low-income communities and immigrant populations.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

    · Conduct client intakes in both English and Spanish.

    · Assess legal matters in areas of family law, tenant’s rights, civil matters, and expungements.

    · Recruit, interview, train, and supervise clinic volunteers and interns.

    · Coordinate legal clinics logistics, facility reservations, client management, address client questions/concerns, etc.

    · Maintain a database of clinic data, including updating/translating client-related legal forms and questionnaires as needed.

    · Maintain and update intern and pro bono volunteer training manuals.

    · Draft legal documents using Legal Solutions or Lawyaw in emergencies.

    · Emphasis: Coordinate with probono attorneys on extensive service areas.

    · Emphasis: Recruit new probono attorneys

    · Assist with community outreach, including attending networking events and career days.

    · Administrative duties include answering telephone calls and relaying clinic information to prospective clients, scheduling appointments, assisting with internal audits, assisting with fundraisers, explaining legal documents to clients, and revising client’s rejected documents.

    · Assist in training pro bono attorneys; reviewing documents, answering all law-related intern questions, conducting client consultations, researching the law, updating the staff and pro bono attorneys on changes in the law and judicial forms, supervising managing paralegal needed.

    · Spanish translation assistance with drop-in clients (as necessary).

    · Document case notes and time tracking on Clio and/or Legal Server.

     

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

    · Full medical, dental, and vision after 90 days.

    · Up to 4 weeks Accruable Vacation

    · 40 hours Administrative Leave Annually

    · 14 Paid Holidays

    Inland Empire Latino Lawyers Association, Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing legal services to low-income persons residing in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. IELLA targets services to seniors and undocumented individuals in the greatest social or economic need. Legal services are provided by attorneys and paralegals under the direct supervision of an attorney. Services include advice and counsel, limited action (includes negotiations and preparation of legal documents), as well as direct representation before administrative law and civil courts. Legal assistance is provided in areas including housing, wage garnishments, collections, family law, civil harassment, elder abuse, domestic violence, certificates of rehabilitation, early termination of probation, and expungements.
