ARTS EDUCATION INTERN Arts Education Intern GETTY MULTICULTURAL UNDERGRADUATE INTERNSHIP InnerCity Arts is a dynamic nonprofit organization that raises more than 90% of annual program and operating support for a $4.5+ million annual operating budget. InnerCity Arts is a multidisciplinary arts campus located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, which annually serves over 7,500 children, teens, educators and families during the school day, after school and on weekends. This internship is offered via the Getty Foundation's Multicultural Undergraduate Internship program. Since 1993, this Internship program has provided substantive, full-time work opportunities to 3,000 undergraduates, exposing them to potential careers in the arts. Aiming to encourage greater diversity in the professions related to museums and the visual arts, the program provides funding for internships at cultural organizations across Los Angeles, including at the Getty Center and the Getty Villa. The Foundation's support enables organizations to host students in full-time, paid internships for ten weeks during the summer. The internships are intended for outstanding students who are members of groups underrepresented in careers related to museums and the visual arts. Students gain experience in key areas such as curatorship, conservation, education, publications, and related programmatic activities. Candidates are sought from all areas of undergraduate study and are not required to have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts. JOB DESCRIPTION: Inner-City Arts seeks an intern with a strong interest in and a commitment to arts in education and the community. The intern will support the day-to-day management of programming offered on the Inner- City Arts Campus, for teens, educators, and families, and develop her/his own leadership skills through direct involvement in our summer programs. Responsibilities will include assisting the daily supervision of high school studio classes in our Visual, Media and Performing Arts Institutes, supporting youth community events in our "Work of Art" program, contributing to web-based research, and working with our Professional Development Institute to support teachers in bringing the visual and performing arts to their school classrooms. Throughout the internship, the intern will assist in the development of reflection and assessment tools that will be utilized during and following the summer programs. She/he/they will collaborate in digitizing print-based materials and archiving digital media from the Professional Development Institute's extensive files and will contribute to our lively social media presence. As a component of working with staff and developing relationships at Inner-City Arts, the intern will attend and participate in program and staff meetings and events. Additionally, the intern will gain a broad understanding of the inner workings of nonprofit organizations by supporting inter-departmental projects and events and will assist with planning for our 2018-2019 school year programming. Of Education ELIGIBILITY: Student must: * Be of a group underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent; * Be currently enrolled undergraduates. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2018. Students graduating in May or June 2018 are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.) * Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County; and be a United States citizen or permanent resident. HOURS: The internship is a full-time (40 hours/week) position, with a stipend of $5,500 for a consecutive ten-week work period between June and August, 2018.
