    Job Description

    The Student Behavior Specialist at Innova Girls Academy Charter School will play a critical role in supporting the social and emotional development of our K-3rd grade students. The primary responsibility of this position is to work in our Student Support Room to create and implement behavior intervention plans, provide individual and group counseling, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to ensure a positive and inclusive school culture.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Behavior Intervention:
    * Assess and analyze student behavior to identify underlying issues or triggers.
    * Develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) tailored to individual student needs.
    * Monitor and track student progress, adjusting BIPs as necessary to promote positive behavior.
    
    1. Counseling and Support:
    * Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing social-emotional challenges.
    * Foster a safe and supportive environment for students to discuss their concerns and feelings.
    * Teach students effective coping strategies and conflict resolution skills.
    
    1. Collaboration:
    * Collaborate with teachers to identify and address classroom behavior challenges.
    * Work closely with parents/guardians to create behavior support strategies and maintain open lines of communication.
    * Participate in team meetings and collaborate with other school staff to create a cohesive support system for students.
    
    1. Data Collection and Reporting:
    * Maintain accurate records of behavior interventions and counseling sessions.
    * Compile and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of behavior plans.
    * Prepare regular reports for school administrators and parents/guardians.
    
    1. Professional Development:
    * Stay current with best practices in behavior management and counseling for elementary school students.
    * Participate in professional development opportunities and training to enhance skills.
    
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Preferred: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
    • Previous experience working with elementary school students, especially in behavior intervention and counseling roles.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
    • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and culturally responsive strategies.
    • Empathy, patience, and a passion for supporting students' social-emotional growth.
