SUMMARY
Our Brewers must have a passion for the craft of beer making and creating exceptional beers for our customers. This position requires fundamental brewery operational knowledge including raw material sourcing and handling. Candidates should have a clear understanding of brewhouse operations, cellar management, and finishing procedures. Additional responsibilities include the analysis of various production and quality parameters. Our Innovation Brewer will work alongside the brewing team guiding new product development and optimizing existing products. Candidates must be committed to quality, understand brewery sanitation and work toward maintaining a safe brewing environment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Idea finder, idea manager, innovation scout, innovation communicator and organizer
Manage the development of new products from idea through first production run
Data management related to product development
Act as the point person for our new product development as well as specialty and barrel aged beer production
Lead and communicate all innovation activities
Lead and communicate existing product and process improvement projects including creating and maintaining SOPs
Lead and communicate contract brewing projects.
Work with our clients to develop recipes, test them at the pilot level, implement them at the production level and conduct ongoing optimization
Lead and communicate non-beer projects (i.e. Non alc beer, seltzer, hop water etc.)
Must be an integral part of the brewing dept leadership team and participate in daily product and process troubleshooting
Meet regularly with the marketing Brand Managers to stay ahead of new product development and communicate the innovation progress being made by the brewing team
Provide the necessary information and content that marketing needs to move forward with new releases and be a forward face for marketing through interviews, writing articles and blog posts
Meet regularly with the Brewing Manager and Barrel Program Manager to help direct innovative initiatives and move that product development through the system and onto the production floor
Maintain state and internal quality and hygiene standards
Raw ingredients trials, following existing material quality and researching new ingredients
Hop selection and in-house lot evaluation
Uphold safety procedures within the brewing environment and throughout facilities
Adhere to the brewing standard operating procedures
Uphold the quality standards directed by the brewery lab and Brewing Manger
Ensure you are punctual, regular in attendance, have a positive attitude and good hygiene and act as a good example for the rest of the staff in these areas
Communicate a positive attitude, sincere interest, and interact in a positive way with management and staff
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Formal brewing school degree and prior professional brewing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals pertaining to brewing and quality control as well as read and understand a variety of scientific instruments. Ability to respond to common inquiries. Ability to communicate and present information effectively
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to understand a variety of scientific calculations related to brewing
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to analyze and solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to use logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions
Forklift certified
Must be punctual, self-motivated, and able to work without constant supervision. Ability to multi-task while being detail and quality focused
Ability to effectively manage time, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and ability to work both independently and as a team. Must be responsible and dependable
Ability to work various shifts including weekends, day, swing, and overnight shifts
Ability to operate and use a PC computer, proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs
