Position Description Summary
The Deputy Building Inspector will provide special inspection support for the LAWA Quality Assurance and Construction Inspection Division across multiple projects within LAWA’s Capital Improvement Program. This role requires knowledge of multiple code requirements, effective communication, and time management.
Essential Job Duties
Create and maintain comprehensive daily inspection reports that capture the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all construction work activities, while ensuring the reports are clear and concise to accurately reflect daily progress.
Assist in reviewing monthly progress payment requests when assigned to a program. Track various changes, verify time and material work, measure, and document job quantities.
Conduct special inspections on various disciplines. Possess experience, knowledge, and understanding of methods used throughout construction.
Possess valid Los Angeles City Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) Deputy Licenses in the following disciplines: Concrete construction Steel construction Drilled-in anchors/seismic resistance
Spray-applied fireproofing
Professional Experience Level/Other Qualifications:
5 years or more of experience performing as a LADBS Deputy Building Inspector on large-scale projects. This includes overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects. Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials.
Expertise in identifying and addressing code violations, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.
Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection/document control (i.e. PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.).
Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervision.
High school diploma (or equivalent)
CAL OSHA-30 certification
Fall protection and harness training
Confined Space Entry Training
Element-Specific Requirements
May assume other duties as required/needed.
May be required to work various shifts as needed.
Shall be open to work modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictated by the contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules.
TBD (typical dayshift is 6:00am – 2:30pm M-F; night shift is 10:00pm – 6:30am SunFri)
Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks
