    The Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) will hire, train and deploy a team of Community Health Workers across Fairfax County, Virginia who will work as an integrated part of the Fairfax County Health Department COVID-19 response effort.

    The Community Health Worker Supervisor collaborates with contact tracing teams, the Health Department Outreach Team, food service establishments, and other county and nonprofit human services providers to provide culturally competent health information, support and communication to communities, individuals and families. This is achieved through health education (e.g., self-isolation and quarantine protocols, vaccine promotion, etc.); coaching, modeling and reinforcing recommended health messages; and identifying and addressing barriers to programs and services needed to protect and promote community health.

    The Community Health Worker Supervisor serves as a manager for a team of CHWs and also works to connect individuals and families in diverse communities to community-based programs, services and resources by utilizing neighborhood or community-level knowledge and familiarity. This includes facilitating access to food, transportation, shelter, physical and mental healthcare, child and elderly care, and other social supports.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Prior experience in a CHW role
    • Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school or GED issued by state department of education
    • Four years of work related to health and human services or relevant community volunteer experience, such as with parent groups, faith-based organizations, civic groups, etc.
    • Related 2-year (Associate) degree may substitute for two years of experience
    • Excellent interpersonal skills required and ability to interact professionally and gain trust with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress
    • Ability to show empathy to distressed individuals
    • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Fluency in English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic, Urdu, Farsi
    • Prior experience working with or accessing community resources and human services in Fairfax County

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    This position is NOT remote work or telework. Candidates must be able to work onsite at health department locations and in various community settings (e.g., restaurants, outdoor events, neighborhood centers, etc.)

    Candidates must be proficient in the use of mobile technology, specifically iPads and mobile apps.

    Ongoing daily access to a vehicle for travel between worksites and communities within Fairfax County is required.

    This is a temporary position in response to needs resulting from COVID-19. This position is designated as essential and is part of the County’s emergency response which operates seven days a week. Shift work may be required with hours during evenings and weekends. Candidates will be assigned one of several shifts which are subject to change based on response needs. Current shifts include:

    • Sunday – Thursday 10:00 am – 6:30 pm
    • Tuesday – Saturday 10:00 am – 6:30 pm
    • Friday – Monday 10:00 am – 6:30 pm
    • Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

    COMPENSATION

    $28 hourly
