  • Responsibilities

    The Case Interviewer is responsible for performing the initial interview of persons with probable or confirmed COVID-19 infection to gather information necessary for public health case investigation and contact tracing. We are recruiting Case Interviewers specifically to staff an onsite, 40 hour per week schedule that runs from Friday to Monday (8:30 am to 7:00 pm).

    The Institute for Public Health Innovation (IPHI) will hire, train and deploy a team of community contact tracing staff across Fairfax County, Virginia who will work as an integrated part of the Fairfax County Health Department COVID-19 response effort. The aim of this will be to call every person in the county with probable or confirmed COVID-19, gather their contacts, and proceed to call every contact in the area. This is in tandem with government efforts to increase testing, improve public communication, and instruct on isolation and quarantine. This will fortify efforts to control the pandemic in Fairfax County.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Gathering information about symptoms, exposures, and contacts (i.e., persons the case has been in contact with while potentially infectious).
    • Provide information about the illness and public health guidance on the methods of disease prevention and control.
    • Assess the capability of cases to comply with isolation protocols, including the self-isolation setting.
    • Identify and elevate those cases who meet the high priority or high-risk criteria to the Case Investigation Team for additional intervention.
    • Accurately enter interview data into a database and follow all county policies and procedures.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to:

    • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree plus two years of health and human services or related professional work experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree or higher in nursing, public health, or related health science field.
    • Prior experience in public health, particularly in epidemiology or infectious disease settings.
    • Fluency in English and one of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic, Urdu, Farsi.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Candidates must be able to work onsite locally in Fairfax, Virginia. Candidates must be proficient in the use of mobile phones and Microsoft Office applications. For an initial training period, IPHI will ask candidates to use their own technology to participate in virtual training, though accommodations can be made as required. Once onboarded, employees will be provided adequate technology for onsite work.

    This is a temporary position in response to needs resulting from COVID-19. This position is designated as essential and is part of the County’s emergency response which operates seven days a week. Shift work may be required with hours during evenings and weekends.

    COMPENSATION

    $34.76 hourly
