    Job Description

    WE ARE LOOKING FOR TEACHER AIDES TO WORK AT OUR ALMANSOR ACADEMY CAMPUS IN SOUTH PASADENA. THIS OPPORTUNITY IS FULL-TIME AT 31 HOURS PER WEEK. 

     

    Our TEACHER AIDES play a pivotal role in helping our students succeed in a classroom environment. Our Teacher Aides work alongside our teachers to teach students with emotional and behavior disorders.

    YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO BE CONSIDERED:

    • Associate's degree, completed CBEST, or have 48 units toward a bachelor's degree from an accredited university 
    • must be able to participate, complete, and implement a mandatory PRO-ACT, CPI, and/or other behavioral intervention training 
    • proficient in the use of modern technology and office equipment
    • hold appropriate automobile insurance with limits that allow driving a personal vehicle for work (50/100k liability coverage)
    • must clear a current background check through the FBI and DOJ
    • a current TB Test (within the last 6 months)

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

    • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
    • preference is given to candidates with special education and Welligent experience
    • 1-3 years of experience in education or working with students with learning disabilities
    • bilingual in English/Spanish

    AS A TEACHER AIDE AT IRL, YOU WILL:

    • Support student(s) with exceptional needs to access and engage in their curriculum or school activity. This includes supporting them in and through learning breakdowns that result in ineffective, negative, inappropriate, and/or aggressive behavior.
    • Reinforce lessons presented by teachers by reviewing material with students one-on-one or in small groups.
    • Help supervise students in class, between classes, during lunch and recess, and on field trips.
    • Meet with teachers to review daily lesson plans and to contribute information and ideas as appropriate.
    • Work with a student in a one on one or small group situations to reinforce instruction and help them learn specific academic skills.
    • Observe and support student in controlling their behavior through the use of positive behavior strategies, de-escalation techniques, competence builders, and other tools and techniques as outlined in Taking Charge for Educators, Pro-Act, and/or CPI.
    • During behavioral breakdowns or emergencies, use skills to professionally assess (observation and orientation), decide, and initiate interventions when necessary to ensure student and staff safety.
    • Complete all necessary paperwork (incident reports, Behavioral Emergency Reports, response reports, data collection, assignment sheets, etc.) in a timely manner as defined by company policy or State legal requirements.
    • Participate in special programs with a student as required.
    • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of students by being aware of the environment and the potential of student actions; assists the teacher or specialist according to established guidelines and procedures.
    • Assist students by providing behavioral examples, providing emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance; assists in directing group activities of students

    THE INSTITUTE FOR THE REDESIGN OF LEARNING (IRL) is a multi-service, community-based Special Education, mental health, job development, and training facility for special needs children, students, and adults.   IRL began in 1974 when its founder, Nancy J. Lavelle, Ph.D., created the Almansor Education Center located in a church on Almansor Street in Alhambra, California. With a belief that every student has the ability to “take charge” of their own learning process, Dr. Lavelle established a unique environment, individualized curriculum, and created appropriate support and enrichment services designed to turn student and client learning failures into learning successes.  Now over forty years later,  the Institute for the Redesign of Learning offers six programs designed to provide a continuum of care for individuals with Special Needs, ages infants through adults, serving children, students, and clients throughout the greater Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley communities.

    ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS: An employee may encounter a noise level that is usually moderate to loud and from time to time and can be emotionally unsettling due to the fact that we work with students who have the potential to act out aggressively.  The work environment is usually comprised of adults, children, and professional staff in an office setting.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
