    Job Description

    POSITION: The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) in San Diego, CA has an opening for half time or full time Post-Doctoral Research Fellow or Research Assistant in Forensic, Trauma and Clinical Psychology for the 2023-2024 training year. The fellowship or assistant position is open until filled. DESCRIPTION: The Family Violence and Sexual Assault Institute (FVSAI) dba Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship or Innovative Research Assistant in the Forensic and Clinical Psychology field. The goal of the program is to develop the next generation of leaders and innovators in the field of trauma focused forensic and clinical psychology, research, training and publications. The position includes advanced forensic and clinical training, education, and applied research, with opportunities for additional specialization in dealing with trauma. It is also possible that this position could be a combined half-time research and half time clinical and forensic psychology position, depending upon the interests of the person. The person will focus on research and training in the above noted areas, help coordinate our large data bases of forensic and clinical assessments of all types of cases collected over the past 2 decades or more, including child custody cases, family violence victimization, violent and nonviolent offenders, juveniles referred for criminal and civil cases, adult survivors of clergy and other types of abuse, and sexual assault. This fellow will participate in and conduct research on the data in the various data bases depending upon their interests, oversee graduate student research assistants coding for the data bases and conducting studies, be involved in the editing process of 3 peer reviewed international journals (Journal of Child Sexual Abuse; Journal of Aggression, Maltreatment & Trauma; and Journal of Family Trauma, Child Custody, & Child Development), and work with graduate student editorial assistants and the Editors. In addition, this person will be involved in publications regarding literature reviews and journal articles in various areas of family psychology, trauma, child, and forensic psychology as well as aggression, abuse, and assault. This person will also be involved in 2 major 3-year projects that deal with domestic violence and child custody training and also helping a state and country become trauma informed. Program evaluation projects and related trainings are also involved in this innovative and diversified position. Receiving excellent, advanced, supervised clinical, forensic, trauma and research training is at the heart of this IVAT position. Training activities include weekly didactics in clinical and forensic psychology with the Clinical and Forensic staff as well as consultation and other supervision. There are opportunities for clinical counseling, forensic evaluations or consultation on court cases, grant writing, research, and article writing opportunities. This person may also have the chance to collaborate with the IVAT Professional Training and Summits Department to help plan and manage trainings designed for certification programs, large international summits on violence, abuse & trauma, as well as engage in opportunities to work with local and national agency programs. SETTING: The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma (IVAT) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that condemns violence and oppression in all its forms. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should hold a master's or doctorate degree in forensic psychology, clinical psychology, criminal justice, social work, or a related discipline. Also, candidates should possess 2-3 years of experience in the fields noted above. Experience and training in child custody, psychological and other forensic evaluations are preferred. Experience and training in research, statistics, SPSS, methodology, and publishing are recommended. Strong candidates will show evidence of excellence in communication, networking, assessment, writing skills, supervisory skills, reasoning, problem-solving, and team building.
