    Job Description

    BASIC FUNCTION

    The KEY youth coach reports to the KEY coordinator and is responsible for creating a fun and educational environment for program youth. The youth coach provides encouragement and direction, and models positive behavior for youth.  The youth coach assists with various programs including homework assistance, sports and recreation, arts and crafts, educational and cultural field trips, and numerous additional activities which further youth’s personal and academic development.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Building meaningful relationships with program youth and their families

    • Providing educational tools and assistance that help increase student academic performance

    • Providing participants with positive adult mentoring and guidance

    • Facilitating and participating in physical activities that are safe and fun for students

    • Attending program excursions and special events and supervising the youth attendees

    • Seeking various learning and development opportunities for students, including guest speakers, workshops and community service activities

    • Aiding in the upkeep and cleanliness of all facilities used by the program

    • Working with the KEY Program Coordinator to develop monthly calendar and workshop curriculum for youth

    • Assisting with student data collection (including attendance, enrollment documents and quarterly report cards)

    • Assisting with recruitment of youth by performing outreach during local school parent nights, report card pick-ups, and other community events

    • Assisting with picking up youth from local grammar schools and walking them over to Instituto

    • Referring youth and families to appropriate and necessary social services whether at Instituto or at other community based organizations

    • Maintaining open communication with program coordinator regarding any student issues or concerns

    • Working cooperatively and in coordination with KEY staff and other Instituto programs

    • Attending weekly staff meetings, planning, and/or training sessions

    • Performing other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Some post-secondary education, preferably in the areas of education, youth work or other related fields
    • Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality
    • Prior experience working with external vendors and client
    • Ability to work with a wide variety of people
    • Ability to work as a member of a team and as an individual with minimal supervision
    • Exceptional organization and time management skills
    • Above average customer service attitude
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills; fluency in both English and Spanish preferred
    • Strong ability to maintain composure under pressure
    • Dependability and punctuality
    • Ability to adhere to deadlines, react to unpredictable events quickly and efficiently, be resourceful, manage conflict and challenges
    • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and the internet
