Job Summary:

The Instructional Aide / ASL Interpreter supports deaf and hard-of-hearing students by providing American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and assisting with instructional activities. This role ensures students have full access to classroom instruction while also supporting overall student engagement and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide ASL interpretation during classroom instruction, meetings, and school activities
• Assist students in understanding lessons, assignments, and directions
• Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and peers
• Support classroom instruction under the guidance of the teacher
• Assist with classroom management and student behavior
• Help with note-taking, organization, and task completion
• Support students during transitions, lunch, and other school activities as needed
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
• Maintain confidentiality of student information

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s preferred)
• Previous experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing students preferred
• Knowledge of classroom practices and student support strategies
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in school or special education settings
• Basic understanding of IEP goals and accommodations
• Patience, flexibility, and a student-focused approach

Work Environment:

• School-based setting (classroom and campus support)
• May require standing, walking, and assisting students throughout the day
