    Job Description:

    This position is responsible for the layout, fabrication, and installation of insulation systems aboard ships, marine vessels, and industrial shipyard environments. Marine Insulation Mechanics work with thermal insulation materials to protect piping systems, ventilation systems, engines, and mechanical equipment in accordance with shipyard specifications and safety standards

    Responsibilities:

    • Read and interpret insulation drawings, layouts, and work instructions
    • Measure, cut, and install insulation materials on piping, valves, and equipment
    • Fabricate and install lagging pads for flanges, valves, exhaust systems, and ventilation systems
    • Install calcium silicate, fiberglass, rubber, and other insulation materials on shipboard systems
    • Assist in or perform layout and installation of insulation on steam, chilled water, and mechanical systems
    • Fabricate and install miters and custom insulation pieces as required
    • Apply finishing cement and seal joints, seams, and insulation connections
    • Work on shipboard piping, machinery spaces, bulkheads, and confined spaces
    • Follow all shipyard safety procedures including PPE, confined space entry, and hot work coordination
    • Read and follow basic job specifications, material standards, and instructions
    • Assist senior mechanics or work independently depending on experience level
    • Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in a clean and organized condition
    • Ensure insulation work meets quality standards and project requirements
    • Communicate with supervisors and team members to complete assignments safely and efficiently
    • Work in shipyard, onboard vessels, and industrial environments under varying conditions

    Qualifications:

    • Shipyard, marine, or industrial insulation experience preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret drawings (required at higher levels).
    • Familiarity with calcium silicate, fiberglass, rubber insulation materials preferred.
    • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
    • Strong commitment to workplace safety and procedures.
    • Excellent attendance and reliability.
    • Ability to work independently as experience level increases.
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to shipyards and naval facilities (DBIDS clearance required).
    • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to work in confined spaces, shipboard environments, and elevated areas.
    • Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.
    • Must be able to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirators (when required), and steel-toe boots.
    • Ability to work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, and wet environments.
    • Work Schedule & Hours:
    • Full-time position averaging 48–56 hours per week, including weekends as required.
    • Overtime and extended hours may be required based on production schedules.
