Position Summary
The Insurance Counselor serves as a knowledgeable and compassionate guide for homeowners seeking help understanding their home insurance coverage and the repair process. This role focuses on education, assistance, and coordination, helping clients navigate insurance policies, claims procedures, and repair options without selling or brokering insurance products.
Key Responsibilities
Review and explain homeowners’ insurance policies in clear, simple terms.
Assist clients in understanding coverage limitations, deductibles, and claim options.
Support clients through the claims process by providing documentation guidance and helping them communicate effectively with insurance companies.
Connect clients with vetted home repair professionals and community resources.
Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with privacy standards.
Conduct follow-ups to ensure homeowners receive the necessary support and services.
Collaborate with internal teams to identify trends in client needs or insurance challenges.
Stay up to date on home insurance regulations, coverage trends, and homeowner assistance programs.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in human services, Business, Insurance Studies, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 2+ years of experience in insurance counseling, claims assistance, or homeowner advocacy preferred. Familiarity with home repair processes or disaster recovery programs is a plus.
Skills: Strong understanding of property insurance terminology and claims processes. Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret policy documents and explain them in a client-friendly way. Proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
Certifications: Insurance or claims-related certifications (e.g., Associate in Claims, AINS) are a plus but not required.
