    Job Description

We’re looking for a senior insurance expert to lead how we define, collect, and assess insurance data across Forbes Advisor. As a specialist of Insurance Methodology & Data Products, you’ll own the strategic vision and execution for our insurance methodologies (auto, home, life, health, small business, etc.) for our editorial team and the associated insurance data products that may be licensed or packaged.

You’ll work cross-functionally to turn complex insurance markets, regulations and consumer needs into clear, defensible scoring frameworks and structured datasets.

This is a hands-on strategy and leadership role: part SME, part architect of how our insurance rankings and data products work and evolve.

    Key responsibilities

    • Own the end-to-end strategy for insurance methodologies across lines (auto, home, renters, life, health, small business, specialty).
    • Define excellence for our insurance assessment frameworks in terms of user value, defensibility, transparency and update cadence.
    • Shape the roadmap for proprietary insurance metrics (e.g., value-for-money indices, claims/experience measures, reliability/stability indicators) and how they surface in rankings and data products.
    • Identify high-impact opportunities to replace or augment vendor data with proprietary collection and help design those research programs.
    • Set clear goals and quality standards for analysts working on insurance frameworks and data products.
    • Mentor team members on insurance concepts, risk thinking, and methodology best practices.

    Qualifications

    Must-have

    • 5+ years of experience in insurance, with depth in at least one major line (auto, home, life, health, or small business), ideally spanning: Carrier, brokerage, actuarial/analytics, product management, underwriting, or regulatory/consulting roles.

    Strong understanding of:

    • How insurance products are designed, priced, and regulated, primarily in the US market.
    • Key drivers of customer experience and outcomes (claims handling, coverage design, exclusions, complaints, etc.).
    • Demonstrated experience building or overseeing analytical frameworks: scoring models, risk models, rating systems, or structured evaluations.
    • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of translating complex insurance and regulatory concepts into clear language for non-experts.
    • Experience discussing complex insurance topics and breaking down findings for consumers

    Nice-to-have

    • Experience at a ratings agency, comparison site, fintech, insurtech, or insurance data provider.
    • Familiarity with model governance, validation or audit processes for scoring/rating models.
    • Exposure to customer satisfaction / NPS, complaints data, or regulatory reporting (e.g., NAIC, state DOI data) and how they can feed into performance metrics.
  • Qualifications
