  • Responsibilities

    The Journeyman is responsible for a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties in assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of Integra Water Creola, LLC’s Wastewater Treatment and Collection Facilities. This is an entry level position in the wastewater system operator series. Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    • Employee must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and hold a valid Alabama driver’s license. Employee must be agreeable to study, qualify and achieve certifications in the Journeyman position.  
    • The employee is given the opportunity to advance through the various certification grades in water and wastewater. Entry level position, Grade I, Grade II, and Grade III positions/certifications are obtainable by the employee through stringent guidelines and time allowances as outlined by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM). Salary allowances for each achievement.

    PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Must have the ability to read, write, comprehend English and possess analytical and mathematical skills.
    • Must have a high level of computer skills with proficient skills in Microsoft Excel.
    • Assist in the regular monitoring of systems through reading gauges, graphs, meters, control panels and records the results as required by management and/or regulatory agencies.
    • Assist with the routine lubrication, adjustments, minor repair and preventive maintenance on machines and related equipment which may include pumps, engines, centrifuges, generators, valves, gates, mixers, conveyors, blowers, dryers, chemical feed, odor control, disinfection equipment, vacuum filters and belt presses.
    • Assist in trouble shooting motors, pumps, and other electrical equipment that operate the collection and plant processes and may operate heavy equipment as required.
    • Help monitor chemical supplies and adjust feed rates as required.
    • Help collect, analyze and interpret wastewater and water samples.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear.
    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
