    The PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (OUTPATIENT) shall perform the following non-judgmental duties involved in working in a retail environment under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist: obtaining patient information specific to creating an electronic patient profile, obtain prescription insurance information and accurately enter it in the pharmacy system, check that information on a prescription is complete and legible at the time of drop-off, retrieve the correct medication from inventory, stock/order/update inventory according to established process, prepare medical insurance claims, direct clinical patient questions to the pharmacist for consultation, properly and accurately ring out the patient, inform Pharmacist when there is a new prescription being picked up which requires consultation, and other tasks as assigned by the Pharmacist-in-Charge or Pharmacist-on-Duty. He/she shall maintain an ethical, professional behavior that ensures efficient, accurate, timely distribution and control of medications dispensed through the Outpatient Pharmacy and keep current on Federal and State regulations as they pertain to pharmacy in a retail setting. 

    Required Skills

    • Must possess a proficient level of computer, verbal/written communications, and ability to prioritize is required.
    • Able to effectively read, write, and speak English fluently.
    • Able to perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately and independently.

    Required Experience

    • Must be a graduate of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Program recognized by the California State Board of Pharmacy and be a California Registered Technician and in good standing is required.
    • A MINIMUM OF ONE (1) YEAR OF WORKING EXPERIENCE AS A CALIFORNIA REGISTERED TECHNICIAN IN A COMMUNITY/RETAIL SETTING AND EXPERIENCE WITH PHARMACY SYSTEMS/PROCESSES IS REQUIRED.
    • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician internship is preferred.
    • Proficient command of the English language and knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
    • Experience using Microsoft applications and the Pharmacy application McKesson Enterprise Rx.   
    • PTCB certification preferred.
