    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Academic Coach is a grant-funded position that is primarily responsible for planning and carrying out academic student activities, assisting students in completing college admission and financial aid applications, academic advising, tutoring , and other special activities to carry out the goals and objectives of the Talent Search grant.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Facilitate Talent Search project efforts, including developing programs and activities reflective of the project vision, coordinating curriculum design among participating schools, planning academic activities for participating students, coordinating early college awareness workshops for participating students and their parents.

    2. Tutor and mentor or provide college success workshops to students in the classrooms during school hours as well as lunchtimes.

    3. Coordinate local school district efforts related to the project including maintenance of records.

    4. Coordinate tutor and activity scheduling.

    5. Assists in preparing periodic reports and future planning efforts.

    6. Recruit students to the program and assists students in preparing college applications and financial aid documents.

    7. Operate within the framework established by CWC’s policies, procedures, and practices.

    8. Perform other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.

     

    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education
      • High School diploma or equivalent. Associate’s and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred, with coursework in education, social work, psychology, or sociology from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.
    • Experience
      • One year of directly-related teaching experience or working with educationally disadvantaged student-populations. Experience in working with grants preferred.
    • Licenses/Certifications
      • Successful completion of a post-job offer, pre-employment criminal background screening.
    • Equivalency Statement
      • Equivalent combinations of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Desired Qualifications, not required.

    • Knowledge of federal and special population programs, operation and purpose of CWC grant programs.
    • Knowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.

    LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

    This position operates with limited supervision under the guidance of the Program Managers for Talent Search grant.

    • Physical Requirements
      • Office setting with light work exerting 10-20 pounds of force occasionally transporting supplies for grant activities.
    • Environmental Conditions
      • Work is primarily performed in an office or classroom setting under limited supervision. Travel in local service area required. Evening and weekend work may be required on occasion.
