    Summary

    This role is intended to be a developmental role for the appropriate applicant who has an interest in working in international sales in the chemical industry. This role will be primarily office-based based, with approximately 10-15 % planned travel to attend trade shows and annual meetings with the locator distributors and major customers. The employee will work with various Spectrum employees who support the international sales process including the VP of Business Development and Director of International Sales. Duties will include issuing price quotes, addressing customer questions, and the placement and tracking of orders.

    Over time the employee will take a more proactive and strategic approach in developing international sales in the assigned foreign regions by reinforcing current relationships and building new ones. Build the Spectrum brand in key foreign marketplaces, by organizing and attending foreign trade shows and expos. Important duties will include sales, distributor management, market analysis and marketing management. This person will be the key contact between Spectrum and the focus markets. This position is intended to be a developmental position and it is the company’s hope that over time the ideal applicant will be able to work more independently and assume more of the international sales responsibilities in certain markets.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Also to exceed assigned international sales goals. Work closely with international market partners, customers, distributors to develop strategic international sales regions. Communicate effectively with Spectrum leadership team in regard to international sales opportunities and necessary support requirements. Work closely with marketing to develop and implement foreign marketing initiatives. Responsible for making certain customer credit balances are current in assigned geographic regions. Work closely with suppliers to leverage opportunities in foreign market places. Responsibly and ethically represent Spectrum in foreign markets. Ensure all export laws and guidelines are complied with. Review all current international distribution agreements, and recommend new agreements to as appropriate to your manager. Maintain an effective travel schedule within budget.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    This job is a developmental role in order to prepare the employee to manage an international sales territory through direct and distributor sales. While there are no direct reports, the person will need strong interpersonal skills in order to support and manage the territory.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    Education and/or Experience

    Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in a technical discipline such as chemistry, biology, engineering or a B.A. in another field with at least five years of experience in the chemical, pharmaceutical, food or life science industries. MBA Preferred, but not essential.

    Language Skills

    Written and oral fluency in English and Spanish essential. This person will need to read and write in English and Spanish. Additional languages would be beneficial, but not required.

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

    Computer Software

    Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite of programs with a strong focus on Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Oracle ERP preferred but not mandatory.

    Physical Demands

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee will be required to travel and must be able to maneuver through airports, train stations and other similar environments with luggage. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds (luggage) at times. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    Work Environment

    The work environment will primarily be that of an office environment. Due to the nature of the position, the employee will also at times be in warehouse, laboratory and / or manufacturin environments. Domestic and international travel will be approximately 10-15%
