    Interim Controller

    Location: Chatsworth, CA / Hybrid Schedule 2-3 days onsite

    Duration: 3-6 months to fill in for LOA and possibility of more depending on incumbent's return

    Pay: up to $90/hr (may have slight flex DOE)

    Summary: 

    Our client is a well-established, growth-oriented financial institution seeking an experienced and hands on Interim Controller to fill in for a short period of time and lead their accounting function. Reporting to the CFO, the individual will own all financial reporting, safeguard the integrity of the general ledger, and provide clear data that drives strategic decisions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Direct daily operations of the Accounting Department and deliver accurate, timely financial statements, NCUA 5300 reports, and month-end / year-end closes.
    • Book monthly journal entries and review entries posted by team members, ensuring ledger accuracy.
    • Maintain strong internal controls, verify data integrity across all systems, and enhance processes that add value.
    • Ensure the Accounting team responds promptly to internal staff and member requests.
    • Oversee AP, AR, balance-sheet reconciliations, vendor analysis, and regulatory reporting.
    • Prepare vendor management analyses and partner with department leaders to optimize costs.
    • Safeguard accurate record-keeping and uphold the credit union's investment responsibilities.
    • Lead monthly balance-sheet account analysis and ensure clear, accurate financial statement presentation.
    • Manage audits, surveys, and special projects as assigned by senior leadership.
    • Recruit, coach, and evaluate Accounting staff; set goals, assign work, and resolve issues in line with company policy and federal/state regulations.
    • Foster a culture of integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability across the team.


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA and/or MBA a plus.
    • 12+ years of progressive, hands-on accounting management experience, with proven month-end and year-end close ownership.
    • Deep understanding of GAAP and credit union or banking regulations.
    • Track record of building and maintaining robust internal controls.
    • Advanced MS Office skills; experience with Symitar or similar core system is a plus.
    • Strong analytical, presentation, and project-management abilities.
    • Ability to set priorities, meet tight deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Clear, concise communicator, both written and verbal.
