    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Under supervision of the Division Director of Quality Assurance, the QA Technician will: Conduct internal audits of client medical records that are related to the requirements set by Medi-Cal, Community Care Licensing and other contact-funded programs;  Possess a good knowledge base of the MCBHB charting and billing requirements as described in their "Treatment Plan & Documentation Guidelines;” Prepare internal reports detailing their audit findings; Provide Medi-cal trainings for program staff and disseminate training materials to staff on a variety of mental health topics.   This position is responsible for efforts to reduce funding disallowances from funding sources due to improper charting and billing and ensuring that documentation is correct.

    COMPENSATION

    $24.79/hour - $32.28/hour. Based on education and experience. Nonexempt; 40 hours/week; Eligible for overtime. 

    REPORTS TO

    Division Director of Quality Assurance.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Required: BA degree in social work, psychology or related mental health field, plus a minimum of four years of experience providing direct services to adults with serious psychiatric disabilities or in the general mental health field; Experience in client documentation responsibilities and a working knowledge of Medi-Cal rules and regulations; Good computer skills focusing on documentation;  Knowledge of electronic health/medical records systems, preferably Avatar; Experience and/or ability to provide staff training on Medi-cal documentation; Ability to work individually and with a team demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills; and Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals and personality types, regardless of ethnic, racial, gender, religious background, or socio-economic level.

    Valid driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Under the supervision of the Division Director of Quality Assurance, the Quality Assurance Technician will assist with the following duties:

    • Conduct internal audits of client records and any other relevant documents.
    • Review Medi-cal documentation of Interim staff and provide feedback, ensuring quality, frequency and timeliness of documentation.
    • Organize and provide Medi-cal training to both new hires and experienced staff individually and in groups.
    • Audit client Progress Notes in order to provide Bi-monthly program Medi-cal trainings with QA staff.
    • Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure that chart deficiencies have been corrected by program staff.
    • Regularly examine compliance reports & communicate with supervisors and management.
    • Examine monthly required annual plan forms in Avatar and communicate with clinicians/ coordinators.  
    • Work with Interim’s Grants & Contracts Manager to ensure there is no duplicate billing.
    • Attend Medi-Cal documentation-related meetings and trainings at MCBHB and disseminate relevant information to staff.
    • Collect data for various types of reports as assigned by supervisor.
    • Keep track of staff’s required trainings, staff who attend Interim’s in-service trainings and disseminate training materials to staff on a variety of mental health topics.
    • Assist Division Director of Quality Assurance with the administrative process for the agency’s re-accreditation or accreditation of programs by CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Ability to: drive an automobile to travel to program sites and meetings, ability to see well enough to read data on a computer screen and client records, ability to hear normal conversations and answer telephone, ability to communicate with other staff; hand, finger and body coordination sufficient to write clearly and to input data into a computer. Capable of the following extended activities:  sitting, working on keyboard.
