    Summary

    The Automation Engineer Intern position will be located in Niles, Oh. We are seeking a highly motivated and energetic student to join our team as an Engineer Summer Intern. This position will assist engineering and manufacturing in driving improvements in quality and delivery performance through process control and product improvement initiatives.

    Intern Summer Project: Lead Development and Implementation of Automation

    Primary responsibility will be to lead projects in the development and implementation of automation in mechanical assembly, machining, and inspection processes. This will include design, specification, directing and managing vendors, installation and qualification of automated systems and equipment.

    Daily Job Duties and Goals to be accomplished:

    • Develop and implement improvements to existing automation in mechanical assembly, machining and inspection processes Develop and implement maintenance programs for equipment.

    • Manage equipment purchase and installation.

    • Prepare manufacturing documentation.

    • Coordinate projects.

    • Work closely with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve issues and provide technical support.

    • Develop systems and layouts that follow lean manufacturing philosophies of one-piece flow and Kanban, with emphasis on mistake proofing.

    • Lead and direct meetings with other team members and hourly associates.

    • Manage tooling and gauge design and drawings.

    • Provide training and guidance to all employee levels in the operation and maintenance of new equipment.

  • Qualifications

    BASIC/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor's degree or master's degree program in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Technology Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechanical Engineering.

    • Minimum completion of Sophomore level coursework from an accredited institution.

    • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

    • Employees/Interns must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Seeking strong verbal and written communication skills.

    • Excellent analytical and organization skills.

    • Ability to multi-task and work in a self-directed or team environment.

    • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and PLC is a plus.

    • Relevant internship or work experience.

    • Comfortable with exposure to a manufacturing environment.
