We are currently seeking an Intern in our Business Development and Marketing department, reporting directly to the Regulatory Business Development team. The Regulatory practices include international trade; health care and life sciences; antitrust; telecom, media and technology; cybersecurity and data privacy, government contracts; space law and policy; and environment and natural resources.

Akin’s Summer Internship Program offers students a comprehensive experience that combines meaningful, hands-on work with opportunities to learn and develop professionally in a supportive, high-performing environment that values innovation, excellence and collaboration. In addition to the opportunities outlined below, the Intern will participate in targeted learning and development programs designed to offer deeper insight into life at a global law firm and sharpen practical skills for future success.

Our Summer Internship Program runs from Monday, June 1st through Thursday, August 6th. Start and end dates can be flexible based on school schedules.

Your Opportunity

As a part of our dynamic Business Development and Marketing team, you will be given hands-on experience in driving growth and shaping strategies while supporting the firm’s Regulatory practice group. In this collaborative and innovative work environment, you will work alongside experienced professionals while simultaneously gaining the necessary skills and proficiency needed to advance your career.

The Intern should reside within a reasonable commuting distance to the Washington, DC office.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Assist with updating attorney biographies both externally and internally.
• Prepare connectivity reports identifying internal and external relationships.
• Assist with the distribution of external content including client alerts, blog posts, invitations, etc.
• Engage in graphic design work and formatting PowerPoint presentations.
• Assist in drafting award submissions.
• Support certain firm events; helping RSVPs and contact lists.
• Assist with updating matter databases.
• Coordinate attendees for firm-sponsored charitable and industry events.
• Collaborate with colleagues across different departments and offices to provide the highest level of service to each task.

Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Enrolled in or recently graduated from, accredited university or college
• Interest and experience in Marketing/Business Development
• Proficiency in Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with all levels of personnel and work collaboratively across all firm departments
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and adjust to shifting priorities in a timely manner
• Willingness and ability to assume new tasks and responsibilities
• Ability to work well under pressure, motivate self, facilitate creative solutions, and meet deadlines and milestones for projects assigned
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client, firm and personnel information, and adhering to the Firm’s Core Values

The hourly rate range for this position in Washington, DC is $19.50 to $22.50/hr.
