    Position Title: Intern, Prevention
    Reports to: Senior Manager, Prevention
    Team: Syndemic Approaches
    Salary Range: $20.00 per hour ****
    Hours and Duration: 20 hours per week
    Location: Washington, D.C. or Remote

    Work Requirements: This position offers flexibility for in-person, remote, or hybrid work arrangements in Washington, D.C., while adhering to Eastern Time (ET) hours.

    Position Summary

    The HIV Prevention Intern will be uniquely positioned to learn all about national HIV prevention efforts. The Prevention intern supports the day-to-day activity needed to advance prevention and surveillance initiatives. The intern will contribute to communication, data coordination, and technical assistance activities that support health departments and public health partners nationwide.

    Essential Duties

    • Update NASTAD’s prevention-focused communication platforms such as the Prevention team’s microsite and the health department prevention directory.
    • Work directly with health department staff to collect important data.
    • Assist in the implementation of workplan activities, such as updating and maintaining prevention- and surveillance-focused directories and microsites, as well as promoting webinars, tools, and other resources to relevant stakeholders.
    • Strengthen HIV prevention and surveillance knowledge through cross-team collaboration
    • Reinforce the progress of technical assistance activities by facilitating timely and effective communication with internal and external partners.
    • Other duties and special projects as assigned

    • Strong writing skills
    • Strong presentation, facilitation, and influencing skills
    • Ability to work with diverse populations
    • Ability to multitask while maintaining strong attention to detail
    • Ability to take initiative and work independently
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications as well as email marking tools such as MailChimp

    Experience/Education

    • In process of receiving bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, health science, or other relevant area of study
    • Some office experience (including volunteering) working within public health, health care or relevant fields preferred
    • Basic knowledge of HIV, STIs and/or other communicable disease, including stigma-related issues

    Additional Information

    • $20.00 per hour
    • 20 hours per week
    • Willing to travel as needed, up to 10%
    • Remote work is possible.
    • Interest in working with a national HIV/AIDS and viral hepatitis public health organization and with the communities most impacted by these epidemics.
