    Job Description

    The Project Management Group Intern will support the Sunnyvale Project Management (PM) team with ownership and execution of tasks designed to improve efficiency in sample handling, project coordination, and reporting processes. This role provides hands-on exposure to technical project management within a laboratory-based, high-tech environment supporting failure analysis and analytical services.

    The intern will work closely with Project Coordinators and Project Managers to assist with receiving and shipping customer samples, coordinating sample flow, tracking project status, and supporting administrative and reporting activities. The intern will manage small projects with deliverables that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the project management process in helping clients solve their materials-related problems.

    This internship is structured to build strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills while providing insight into how technical projects are managed from intake through completion.

    Work Location & Relocation

    Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the work location on a regular basis.

    Regulatory & Work Authorization Requirements

    This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). In accordance with these regulations, employment is limited to individuals who qualify as a U.S. Person , defined under ITAR as one of the following:

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Receiving, organizing, and coordinating customer samples
    • Supporting shipping and receiving activities for projects
    • Tracking project and sample status
    • Assisting with project coordination and administrative tasks
    • Managing small, clearly defined projects with guidance
    • Supporting photo-documentation of samples using microscopy and photography
    • Transferring, organizing, and maintaining images in shared repositories
    • Assisting with PowerPoint style project summaries
    • Helping streamline project workflows and improve reporting efficiency

    Learning & Development Opportunities:

    During the first two weeks, the intern will receive structured training covering:

    • Overview of the project lifecycle and role of the Project Management Group
    • How to navigate and use the EAG laboratory information management system (LIMS)
    • Sample handling and disposition workflows
    • Expectations for communication, organization, and project ownership

    Throughout the internship, the intern will shadow Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and analysts to observe active projects and testing workflows. With growing confidence, the intern will begin managing small projects, coordinating data and documentation, and contributing to reports and presentations.

    The intern will gain:

    • Hands-on experience in technical project coordination
    • Exposure to analytical and failure analysis workflows
    • Experience using optical microscopy and photography for documentation
    • Practical knowledge of how engineering data is collected, tracked, and reported
    • Improved communication, organization, and presentation skills
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    This internship provides hands-on exposure to technical project coordination and project management within an engineering and science-based environment. No prior project management experience is required; training and mentorship will be provided.

    Preferred fields of study include:

    • Materials Science and Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Biomedical Engineering
    • Physics
    • Other engineering or science degrees

    Preferred qualifications and attributes include:

    • Good organizational and time management skills
    • Excellent Attention to detail
    • Interest in project coordination, problem solving, and technical environments
    • Proficiency with Microsoft tools (Excel, PowerPoint; Copilot experience a plus)
    • Ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, including with customers
    • Confidence, initiative, and willingness to work independently after training
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset
    • Creativity and interest in making processes more efficient and visually effective
    • Comfortable managing multiple tasks and priorities on a weekly basis

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
    • Ability to continuously operate a personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods of time (4 or more hours).
    • Ability to operate a keyboard and other lab equipment, use a telephone, access file cabinets and other items stored at various levels, including overhead
    • Ability to communicate clearly and understandably ensure an accurate exchange of information in normal conversational distance, over the telephone, and in a group setting.
    • Ability to handle small and fragile devices with tweezers and /or fingers.
    • Require close distance visual acuity with or without correction (Glasses, Contacts, etc.)
    • Must be willing and able to wear PPE such as hard-hat, steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, laboratory coat and/or any other devices or equipment that is required.
    • Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota.
    • Ability to move equipment or items up to 50 lbs.

    • Location: Sunnyvale, CA (810 Kifer Rd)
    • Estimated Duration: June 8, 2026 – August 21st, 2026 (with potential to extend part-time during the school year, through May 2027)

    The intern will be supervised daily by a Senior Project Coordinator and will have weekly check-ins with the Director of Project Management. The internship concludes with a final presentation highlighting accomplishments, lessons learned, and overall experience.

    This role is ideal for students entering their Junior or Senior year who are interested in combining technical knowledge with project management, coordination, and real-world problem solving in an engineering-focused environment.
