    PRIMARY FUNCTION:

    To assist Sales Department in a variety of sales and marketing tasks that will enable the Sales Engineer to develop the skills and business acumen required to become an Account Manager. This position will expose the Sales Engineer to all facets of the company and all areas of the sales function.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. The Sales Engineer will work closely with the following groups:
    • Sales Team
    • Operations Manager, Team Leaders, and Toolmakers
    • Prototype Manager
    • Purchasing and the supply base
    • Manufacturing Engineering and Automation
    • Tool Design
    • Tool Room
    • Controller
    • Product Launch
    • Quality Engineering
    • Production Control and Customer Service

    2.The Sales Engineer will assist Account Managers, Sales Estimating Engineer, and Applications Engineers during the        product development phase with the customer including:

    • Communication
    • Product quoting activity
    • Tooling concepts
    • Internal communication w/ tool designers, toolmakers, production, etc.
    • Participate on both internal and customer project teams,
    • Identify qualified outside suppliers for special tooling and equipment requirements with Trans-Matic’s Purchasing Department.
    • Assist Account Managers by providing customer communication during engineering development    cycle. Identify tolerance/stack-up and specifications for components used in assembly.

    3.  Participate with quoting new customer inquiries, gathering product and business information for the inquiry.

    4.  Entering new projects in Trans-Matic’s Product Launch System (PLS.)

    5.  Conduct market research activities.

    6.  Cost updates about Trans-Matic to social media sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Google)

    7.  Maintain database for industry trade shows. Manage exhibits for trade shows. Attend trade shows along with other sales colleagues.

    8.  Maintain Trans-Matic promotional products/literature and trade show booth.

    9.  Assist the Account Managers as a back-up when the Account Manager is out of the office.

    10.  Field random sales calls and internet inquiries.

    11.  Lead cost reduction activities for existing business.

    12.  Support program managers with product launch activities as necessary.

    13.  Conduct account management activities for a small list of accounts.

     

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                              

    1. High degree of mechanical aptitude.                        
    2. Ability to conceptualize and articulate complex technical information to others.
    3. Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline.
    4. Excellent interpersonal skills, possessing an ability to work with people from all regions of the world.
    5. A working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
    6. Strong computer aptitude (presentations, social media website development, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    7. Strong leadership and organizational skills.
    8. A basic knowledge base of manufacturing processes and a strong desire to enhance knowledge.
    9. Strong decision-making skills.
    10. Strong technical/business memo writing skills.            
    11. Academic and/or practical computer aided design (CAD) training and/or experience.
    12. Strong self-initiative, willingness to learn and advance
    13. Ability to travel occasionally (5 – 10%)

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Automotive technical experience.
    2. Experience with QS9000, PPAP submissions, and Advanced Product Quality Planning.
    3. Experience with Kaizen principles or other Lean Manufacturing techniques.
    4. Working knowledge of statistical process control.    
    5. Tool design experience.
    6. Quoting experience.
    7. Metal stamping/assembly experience/manufacturing processes.
