    A leading Accounting and Advisory Firm in Buffalo, NY is seeking an International Tax Manager to lead U.S. tax engagements involving international tax matters for individuals, businesses, and closely held entities with cross-border activity. This role is built for a tax professional who understands that international tax is far more than compliance. It requires technical depth, precision, strong client judgment, and the ability to navigate U.S. tax obligations tied to foreign income, foreign assets, and cross-border activity. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients facing sophisticated international tax issues and help them manage reporting requirements, reduce risk, and make informed decisions.

    This International Tax Manager position focuses on U.S. taxation in an international context - You will work with U.S. citizens living abroad, foreign nationals with U.S. filing obligations, businesses with foreign operations, and clients navigating the intersection of U.S. and foreign income reporting. The right person will bring both technical tax expertise and the ability to translate complex international tax concepts into practical guidance for clients.

    This is an in-person, onsite position in Amherst, NY.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage and deliver tax engagements with a focus on international tax matters for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities
    • Advise clients on U.S. tax implications related to foreign income, foreign assets, offshore accounts, foreign ownership structures, operations, and cross-border transactions
    • Research and resolve complex international tax issues and multi-jurisdictional scenarios
    • Interpret and apply U.S. international tax rules related to reporting, compliance, planning, and risk mitigation
    • Review and oversee the preparation of U.S. tax filings and international informational reporting forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
    • Research complex tax issues involving expatriate taxation, foreign tax credits, residency considerations, foreign-source income, and international reporting obligations
    • Provide strategic guidance to clients on tax planning opportunities and risk mitigation
    • Partner closely with clients to gather information, ensure timely, accurate filings, assess tax exposure, resolve tax issues, and identify tax planning opportunities
    • Provide strategic guidance to clients with international tax needs, including U.S. citizens living abroad, foreign nationals with U.S. income, and businesses with global operations
    • Supervise, mentor, and develop staff involved in tax preparation, research, and engagement support
    • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while maintaining high standards for responsiveness, technical accuracy, and client service
    • Identify opportunities to expand advisory relationships and support broader client needs across tax and accounting services

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience
    • Experience with international tax concepts from a U.S. perspective required
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • Demonstrated experience with complex U.S. tax issues involving foreign income, international reporting, and cross-border tax implications
    • Strong knowledge of tax compliance and advisory work related to individuals and businesses with international activity
    • Excellent tax research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to communicate highly technical tax concepts clearly and professionally to clients and internal stakeholders
    • Prior experience managing engagements and serving in a client-facing role required
    • Proven ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and lead within a collaborative team environment
